can anyone recommend sites with pictures on building sealed set size boxes in door panels for a set of 8" subs? the plan is for them to fit under the stock door panels using the stock doorpanel speaker cutouts which were for 5x7s Posts: 13 | From: erie, colorado, us | Registered: Jan 2001

Well, I have a new Tacoma with 8's in the doors (no pics up yet, though).
I doubt it's possible to get 8's in the doors without some major cosmetic surgery (cutting metal, build-outs, etc.).
I just made a build-out enclosure on each side that also doubles as an armrest. Didn't have to cut any sheetmetal. The boxes are approx. 0.3 cubes each.
Somebody else on the forum built enclosures for 8's inside the doors of a GMC Typhoon, can't remember who. Do a search on sounddomain.com's forum.

I have a 4Runner so my doors are somewhat similar but I've seen the doors on my friend's Tacoma and you'd have to find a sub that has a really shallow mounting depth. I have JL 6.5"s in the doors that are about a cm off the stock brackets and the magnet clears the window rail by about 1/8" of an inch or so. I could probably have them mounted out another cm or so and have it still fit under the stock door panel since the stock speakers are 6.5", but I'd imagine an 8" would be too big in diameter to match up w/ the door panel.
