I'm sure most of the people here, being such audio enthusiasts and all, have seen this car before.

http://www.alpine-usa.com/html/D2_n_1_n_n.html
go there, then click on alpine demp car (bottom right) then on Civic Si.

This site is awesome, it shows how the whole thing was done, step by step, and a description with ever picture. I have a couple of questions though, after they have done the FG, they put on Dura-glass, sand it, THEN put on body filler. What is Dura-glass, and what is the whole purpose of that step?

"duraglass" is bondo with short fiberglass strands in it.

"kitty hair" is bondo with long strands in it.

"spot putty" or "glaze" is a finish coat and is very thin to allow it to spread ery evenly. it leaves no air bubbles or pits.

There are some steps that they don't show in the pictures. I feel this is too bad since I would love to learn how they do some things.

Urh...that car is nasty. The BMW is the shizzie. The guy that really built the car isn't at Alpine anymore...and hasn't been for many months- we all know that Chris Yato was the man over there.

duraglass is used because it is for the initial coat rahter than regular body filler because it is stronger and does not shrink. you will still want a skim coat of filler over the duraglass for a nice finish...the duraglass does not finish nice because of the fiberglass in it.

that is definitely nice work on the civic but it is way too much.

The M3 is still better IMO. Tell me that the dash in it looks like it belongs there.

The dash looks like it belongs. [Razz]

No, seriously though the craftsmanship and design is incredible. Does it suit my tastes for a daily driver... hell no! Is it a phenomanal show car that gets Alpine plenty of attention (as its purely designed to do)? Absolutely!! Mission: Accomplished, Alpine!
