Ok, I've been pretty active handing out advice on here but no one has seen any work I've done. This is my first fiberglass install (many MDF only boxes under my belt) and need some feedback to drive my will to continue. It's a friend of mine's car and I'm kind of using him for experience before I tackle my own project which is under works also. The amps will be on rack at the front of the enclosure sitting on 3/4" plexi which I ordered yesterday. I already wish I did the rings differently but I think it'll work out ok.

Heh, yea his has definitely been a learning experience. I've already redone my own mounting rings to be flush mount and I'll be using t-nuts with mine after doing his and not being 100% satisfied.
No pics worth posting of my own setup yet.. unless you want to see everything piled in my room! (Didn't think so..) I have a few of the components made but they dont make much sense without being in the vehicle and they aren't ready for that yet.

looks good...its comin along. i too did my 1st fiberglass project on a civic that wasnt mine...hehe it was my sister's. are you utilizing the space where the spare goes, or will the spare tire go back down there? if you are still gonna use the spare, have you devised a way to access the spare easily? just some things to think about... which is why i went with a setup that fills in the side compartment area. here is my webpage where i did a write up of it: http://www.codefusion.org/~legarcia/civic_fiberglass.htm
and here is a quick pic of it: the wires have since been hidden and a cover added to protect the sub from junk in the trunk.

edit: this was done on a 99 civic, 4 dooor

looks good for the first time you did it. so i guess its not all that hard mostly just time consuming.
out of curiosity u will be removing those metal pieces or no?
looks good.
thanks, dan
No Dan, the metal braces will stay. They aren't in the way of the magnet or basket of the subs and they can only brace the box (not have any negative effect) so I will leave them. I highly recommend scanning through the previous threads on this board especially "Fiberglass Anyone???" if you are getting into 'glassing. There's some great fabricators around here.

To put it simply. No. It uses most of the spare tire well and does not leave room for the spare. We live in a pretty urban area and he doesn't stray too far from home. For long trips the spare will fit comfortably behind the drivers seat in the floor. Thank God for donut spares . If there were an easy way to get to the spare underneath the box then that would probably mean the box would be easily removable by those that should not be removing it.

Well, the plexiglas for the amp rack came in today. I wanted each amp (10"x15") to sit on a plexiglass piece with a 1" border around... my dumb self ordered a sheet 16"x32". Looks like I'll be ordering another sheet at 80 some dollars or I'll need to improvise.
The plexi will have a chamferred edge that I'm edge-lighting with varad LEDs from underneath the amps (LED itself hidden). Any ideas?

Looks good. Did you use a resin with wax in it? I hate the mess that sanding fiberglass makes, so I usually do my finishing work by adding on body filler thick, and never sand the surface of the fiberglass part.
Also, I like to hot glue my backstrap in. That way when it's all fiberglassed, I can take them out. Then if someone is looking at my work, they can't figure out how I got the ring to stay there.

There are several other places you can get LED's from that are cheaper. Check these sites out:

Thanks for the info Steven. I got those sites bookmarked for the future but to ensure you can sleep at night you should know that I got the Varad's free in a contest!
I had never thought about viewing angle...
You've got a killer looking console there. I had seen it many months ago when I was just a lurker around here. Keep up the good work and I want to see that plexi logo you were working on. That's a great idea to use the alarm LED with it.

Well thanks. I really appreciate it. The project is slow going, but will eventually be done..........................I hope.

e3opian....where did you get the grommet that the power wire passes through in the fire wall? Or is it a factory grommet? The box looks good.

I passed the wire through a boot that was already there for the car's computer i just cut a slit in the rubber boot and passed the wire through and then siliconed around the slit. Streetwires and some other folks make grommets though and I know sounddomain.com stocks them. I have bought one from them before.
