I have some 1/4 inch plexi I need to cut down. Can I use a jigsaw, table saw, etc or is there a special way to cut this stuff?

Thanks!

you can buy a "plexiclass cutter" but its just a thick razor on a handel. you dont want to cut plexi becauseit gets to hot and melt. you want to break plexi. to do this you have to score it. you have trace the line you want to cut then run over it with a razor a few time to make a line. then keep doing it so it gets deeper and thicker. then when your real deep, just snap it. of course this is time consuming and hard. but thats what they say to do. course if never had a real problem just hacking it away on a band saw or jig saw. if you use jig, get bits made for cutting plastics and youll be fine. you might want to drip some machine oil on the blade while cutting so it doesnt get as hot. work case scenario, if you burn the edges, sand it with 200 grit and work up to 1400 grit then polish it with some polishing compound.

I just use a band saw.. it cuts it really smooth and easy.. sand it leave a REALLY clean edge.. just a little sanding.. and with scoring and snapping you always have a pretty rough edge.. cause where you have to snap it i always end up with a little lip.. and thats with 1/8 plexi.. and if you do chose to score it and snap it.. take you tim with a strait edge and done push really hard.. one slip and you will ruin a piece of plexi REALLY quick.

Actually, it's Lexan, but I assume it will act the same way plexi would if I used a regular jig saw, right?

I will still go pick up the blade to cut plastics with, etc.

THanks guys!

Well, I used a regular blade and it cut it fine HOWEVER I forgot to leave the protective sheet over the plexi/lexan and the jigsaw blade guides scuffed up the whole piece.

Went to the store, bought a thicker piece, used a friend's table saw (while the protective sheeting was still on it) and it worked just fine.

Thanks again fellas!
