I have a question concerning fiberglassing. What type of resin is the best to use? What do materials do you use to create a custom center console? Im new and read a few posts here but I havent heard of what exact materials to use. Also what in the world is MDF? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I can't comment on what resin is the best. The stuff at lowes/depot will suffice. MDF is medium density fiberboard, which can be had at lowes and HD.

What do you want the console to do? Will it house speakers? Do you want cupholders, pockets to put stuff in, cubby inside? All glass projects are similar, you'll just be creative with the things you want to add into the console. If you find any tutorial FG links you'll see that there is a base made from either MDF or fiberglass mold. A baffle for speakers, cupholder, etc. that is attached to the base. Then the two are linked together by streching fleece or other material. Then coated with resin, then layers of mat/glass until desired thickness.

I would suggest finding some of those tutorial sites with pics. You'll find helpful hints and also get an idea of the process. Hope that helped.

xodus,
You may want to reference this thread also:

Fiberglass anyone???

It has tons of information, talks about different resins and has somewhat become our pseudo-bible here. Atleast for me anyway...
