about 6 months ago, I've built an FG wheel well box for my brahma 15.

I like it alot, but I had to take the box out of the car for our summer holiday.

Before I put in in again, I would like to lay down some more layers of FG. I have some spare (for obout 3 layers) mat and resin, and instead of throwing it away I'd prefer to use it (bow can never be strong enough!).

Question is: as a final layer, I have poured some undercoating in the box. So the additional layer would be on top of that. Is it OK to lay FG mat on that undercoating?

I don't see why not, I've seen people put a layer of sound deadening material in their kicks, then glass over that.

it depends on what the undercoat material is. if its got wax in it, or petroleum based chemicals it is not good to use. but, you dont need any anyway. it wont do anything noticable to the performance of the box. heres a little trick of trade that will work like a champ. you need to get some sand to do it though. make sure there are no overly large chunks of rock or anything in it. then mix up a batch of resin using a 50/50 mix of resin and laquer (not paint) thinner. thatll give you a nice thin mix. then throw the sand into the mix. put in enough sand so that it will still soak into the mat material and leave a sand on in the wet resin. this will help give you a solid structure and provide a little sound deadening. but you wont notice.

I did the job last evening, and it worked out great. I had forgotten the nice smell of the resin...

The box has had 3 extra layers, and is stiff as hell now! I also put some resin onto the T-nuts, so that would would stay in playe 4ever!

How did the new layers of matt/resin react with the undercoating?
