Ok, so today at work, this guy who runs a turret press we use to punch stainless installs a new tool/die set. The tool runs 1100.00 and the die runs 1400.00... anyway, he puts the die on 180* off... and starts the press, the first piece (a test piece) goes in, he hits the foot pedal, and WHAMMMM!!! 30ton press stops DEAD in its tracks.. the die and tool DONT match when one is turned 180*..... Needles to say, doood got canned.... Thought I'd share after my stainless question!

A similar thing happened to me when I worked at a machine shop. We were building parts on the CNC lathe out of 1-1/2" stainless rod. I start the program in the middle where I thought the lathe should have moved away from the material, changed tools, and moved back into the material. Well since I picked the wrong part of the program, it changed tools right where it was, butted up against the material. 3 days and around 1000 dollars later the machine was running again, with someone else operating it. Interestingly enough the impact bent the material at about a 30 degree angle, and moved the whole machine an inch or so on the ground.
