looks like a lot of it could be MDF, just because it is all flat. However I will agree it sort of looks a lot like fiberglass.

Get a good auto grade primer, and spray the wood. Then wet sand it, then primer it again, ,and wet sand it, ,then primer again, and wet sand. Start out with a coarser sandpaper, and work your way up, til its smooth as glass. I think the face plate that we did was wet sanded and primer 7 times til it was perfect. Then just pray it with whatever color you want!

On my amp rack in my truck I layed a coat of fiberglass resin (no cloth or matt) then sanded it smooth and primered it... loked really nice... maybe I'll make another amp rack and get it painted this time.

Surprisingly the once the primer is completely dry it doesn't scratch as easily.

Pre-drilling would be nice but not necessary.

I aslo did the same thing to my lower center console. (just primer).

Well I noticed that sanding the paint is pointless. It doesnt make it smooth, kinda rough. Maybe I got the wrong kind of paint. Any suggestions of paint that I should use?
