Guys, PPI and Orion are not gone..They have just moved to another house! I hated to see them leave also. It's like losing the an old friend, but sometimes things happen.
The move must be a financial one. Stop and think about the cost of maintaining two locations for the same thing. Directed had already moved most of the companies to California. There were no products in Arizona. Everything was shipped out of Calif. Now with everything out there, it will be better for the entire operation.
It hurt to see PPI close a few years ago and watch it being sold and resold. But guys, you do it all the time when you change jobs, buy a new car, new stereo products, house, new girlfriends, new wives, etc.
Things are constantly changing and we have learned to go with changes. Give them a chance to get things in order. I also hate to see Dan and my other friends change jobs. Again, it happens to all of us and it hurts, but we always seem to come out ok.
The nice thing about Dan is that he is still in Arizona. I get to pester him and he was able to another job immediately.
You know, if Directed had not purchased the assets of these companies, they could be in Asia, South Africa, Brazil, Europe, or in car audio heaven with other companies that were not so lucky. They are only a phone call away as they have always been.
The companies that I can think of that were sold in the past are Lightning Audio, Coustic, Esoteric, Cervin Vega, Illusion Audio(gone) MBQuart and Clifford. I know there are others, but do not remember.
Don't think of this as a funeral - think of it as a rebirth!!!!

Me and my friend were just talking the other day about how Orion used to be a very popular and widely available brand. Hopefully it will get back to being that way

now everything gets to be built in korea... good for the koreans, good for the consumers, bad for jobs in the US. vista california, sounds familiar... oh wait i am right next to it. the only reason why this purchase was made, was the controller interest of dei changed over. congressman darrell issa owns 20% of dei now. dei is the biggest powerhouse in car audio now... if you do not think so, who do you think is.

I agree. DEI and Rockford Group own a lot of different companines. Pretty soon it will be the "Big 3" again only this time it's because they own everyone else.

It's a sad day for all of us. I can remeber talking to Richard Lemay (founder of Orion). I also remember when I heard the news when he died of a heart Attack in 1992. It's the same feeling again. It was fun being part of Orion back in the "Non-Corporate" family days. Just pick up the phone and talk to the owner, supervisors, Reginal Sales Reps. No automated machines or "Voice mail". They were real people with real passion for Car Audio.
It'll be never the same. Just an empty shell longing for the days....

i also feel your pain, talking to real people were a plus. now all you seem to get is voice mail and automated services. it just feels more distant that way.

Do people even know who Richard Lemay was?. Do people know who Jeff Scoon was? Do people how all of therse Arizona Manufactures started? Can a corporate company give the personal support and "joke around" on the Phone? Does it matter who buys the company? U.S. or offshore?
What should matter is the fact that IMO, once a factory moves to a corporate world, it's all about the bottom line dollar. I felt it during my exodus from one of the companies sold and gone corporate. IT's about the $. I guess it not bad. However, IMO, I rather drink Jones soda than Coke.
Trust me. IT's definitely not about "passion" for Car Audio. At least, I can't see it.
IT's too bad our new enthusist have very little to go by as for the history. Just my 2 cents.

Yes Orion has moved, it is not gone, but only as long as Califonia never falls into the ocean, like the tabloids have said for years.
What a run on sentence.
