Ok guys, My first sq comp is in less than 10 days. I,ve read all the magazine articals on tuning, but I wanna know from seasoned grizzled vets what's the most important part of comp tuning?? gain settings?? speaker placement xorv point?? I'm trying not to over look anything but I have no other audio nuts in my area so I'm going it alone.

Geez, that's a big topic but here's something really rough that I go by... First, xover your midbass as low as they will tolerate at a fairly decent volume. Use the test CD on the appropriate tracks to make sure they don't crackle, but get them playing lowwwww. Next, turn your sub down to the point where you just begin to think, "Man, there is NO bass." This is about perfect. If you got any thump at all you WILL lose points guaranteed. You should have a little - just enough to remind you that you have a woofer, but no real bass to speak of. Dunno what's wrong with those judge guys.... I NEVER worry about my curve but find that if I really like the sound, most cars will pull low to mid 30s in RTA. Good enough for me...
