It might have a little more in it - I have not hit x-mech limits on the subs just yet.

They are on pre-sale now if you go the Sundown Audio sections on SSA, SMD, or CACO forums. Priced around 100 dollars each.

They will be shipping (ETA) in February.

SPL per watt testing (total power... divide by 2 for each woofer):

330 watts = 143.9 dB (HU @ -10 sub control)
430 watts = 144.8 dB (HU @ -9 sub control)
580 watts = 145.6 dB (HU @ -8 sub control)
750 watts = 146.4 dB (HU @ -7 sub control)
990 watts = 147.2 dB (HU @ -6 sub control)
1290 watts = 147.8 dB (HU @ -5 sub control)
1710 watts = 148.5 dB (HU @ -4 sub control)
2260 watts = 149.1 dB (HU @ -3 sub control)
3010 watts = 149.9 dB (HU @ -2 sub control)

Going to try -1 shortly after they cool off... I dropped a 4500D in the Jeep instead so I am a bit more flexible on power if I decide to put something different in for any upcoming shows. So I have the potential to put more power than I have before on them now.

-1 was too much with the 4500D -- woops [Smile]

I have a few tweaks to production that should allow that sort of power on burps. Still didn't kill it thermally, though !

FYI... I sheared the aluminum former in two -- didn't break any glue joints or thermal the coil. I suspect I bottomed out my triple joint ring on the top plate hard enough that the shock broke off the former. Of course I had 2000 or so watts per sub at this point too -- something has to go eventually.

I will add a LITTLE more rearward clearance on production models so even doing that will be slightly more difficult.

Put me on yer mailing list! I will be using 4 DD 8's in my Kruiser, soon as I can afford the rebuilds!
Would like to compare these against the DD's!
What coil configurations will be offered?

D2 and D4 -- D2 being a thicker wire will have a bit higher BL^2 / RE (motor force).

I've had alot of folks ask me about how they compare to the DD 1508s so I bought a pair of 1508s to measure T/S specs on since I cannot find them online :

The DD 1508 is WELL broken in as it is used.

Sundown SA-8 (D2) / DD 1508 (D4) :

RE: 3.28 ohms (series) / 7.48 ohms (series)
FS: 41.6 Hz / 44.6 Hz
Qes: 0.513 / 0.844
Qms: 6.606 / 9.217
Qts: 0.476 / 0.773
Le: 2.778 mH / 6.446 mH
Vas: 3.285 L / 4.672 L
BL: 17.138 N/A / 17.78 N/A
Cms: 83.341 um/N / 99.97 uM/ N
Mms: 175.654 g / 126.977 g
Sens: 78.476 dB @ 1w/1m / 78.77 dB @ 1w/1m
BL^2/RE: 89.5 / 42.26

I may drop the 1508s in my box and try them as well if the cut-out is comparable.
