A while ago i purchased an Astro. It is in pretty rough shape, but over winter I hope to make it look respectable and have it play a loud number. The Class I am building it for will be Street Max 1-2. Subs are the older style Cactus Sounds, Amps still haven't been purchased but will be Soundigital. Hope to have the box done before Scott has his typhoon burping again. Between racing with Scott and having this build topic I hope to stay motivated. The goal is 160. Feel free to add any comments or ideas throughout the progress of this build. Here is some pics of the van when I bought it to start this topic off:

Man, I recently had my Astro crushed. It had 5 dd9515's in it with 5 MA 802sx's. It was ok, it just lacked voltage. Anyway, good luck on the build and get Scott to work on his. Gotta mess with ya man.

i dunno that the alternator or multiple batteries will help much, since it's StreetMAX. but lots of 0ga for sure.

if he wants a 160 he can elminate stinger, kinetik and powermaster. Hes going to need a multicell obviously.
Id imagine he goes with a cactus batt.
Moar pics!

I would say to start on the powerwire and some buss bars. No need to jump head first into a battery, the new rules aren't even out so there is a chance the class gets eliminated. I will if you want anymore advise feel free to ask, I will be glad to help anyone in my class(or any other).

I am looking for around 500 feet of 1/0 or 2/0 wire. I already have built custom buss bars to accommodate this much wire. I think I will talk to a few different companies to see if they can give me a bulk or competitor price on wire in return for advertising their product. Depending on the price, I may also end up using solid copper bars from the front to back. For a battery, I currently have an optima group 31, powermaster 3100 and nsb90 all for testing. I will wait for the rules before buying a multi cell.
And a build topic isn't very good without pics so here is some pics of the buss bars I have built.

I am sorry for boring you guys to death with this build topic, but there still is body work to be done. This upcoming weekend is thanksgiving in Canada and everyone has Monday off, hopefully I can get alot of work done on it. Anyways. Another pic....
UH OH.... Rust hole due to previous body work
Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to take more due to cutting and grinding away the rust.
I hope people regularly check back on this topic, yes, I realize this van is a gigantic piece of **** but it does run pretty good, and should look pretty good too once it is done. I promise it will get more interesting after the weekend.

kyle are you going to be driving the van at all or trailering it?
If driving i highly suggest a 350 swap as its super super easy and can be done in a weekend easily for under $1000.

Dustin, I have a spare 350 sitting around accually. Not really sure if im going to put it in or not yet, Mat Romain and PeteS team mate were telling me about how easy it was to put in so maybe I will. The van will be put on a trailer for every show I think because the cost to insure it for a year is about the same price as a trailer, the only difference is that after the year, I would have a trailer and not a receipt saying I paid 2 grand.
Anyone have any suggestions for power wire companies and sound deadening companies I should speak with. For deadener I want a product similar to vibraflex, or maybe like db blue.

ya good call on the trailer. Ive got a few spare small block chevs and all the parts youd ever need too if you end up going the swap.
Deadener obviously vibraflex will be the way to go. There are so many astro builds out there done so similarly you need to something different in your build to differentiate yours from theres. I havent heard of any of them using vibraflex yet. But a few of the really loud ones have used dbblue. My vote goes for vibraflex...even if you have to buy a minimum of $1500 worth or whatever it was im sure any of the smart dbdraggers in the west and even the east would be all over it. Could organize a group buy type thing. I know Id have one guy from my team all over it.
For powerwire id try talkin to knuconcepts and going with their klm cable like i had in my explorer. They will cut deals there if you present an email to them professionally about your car, ur history, goals, and how much exposure you can provide to their company. When I bought 300 feet of klm I just asked for free shipping and that was no problem there. Saved around $70 usd i think.
I think the solid bar idea will end up being cheaper though but it all depends how thick of a bar ull need to equal your 40 runs of wire ull probably want to run.
from what I just googled. 6 feet of 3" wide X 3" thick copper is $1120 usd for 110 alloy. They didnt have longer lengths in that thickness tho. Or 2" diameter rod at 6 feet long is $650
