These are your only two choices. Power will be supplied from a pair of strapped mtx te4001d's. Enclosure will be sealed up and walled behind second row in an SUV. Let me know what ya think. I hate these types of threads but them's the breaks

Ha, just because that's the direction I'm taking on this install. I've done the loud ported box thing and I don't really dig it anymore. I'm going more old school ground pounder on this deal.

Although I'm may make the box with linear actuators that would open a port who knows. Tune it high for a burp or something, but my goal is a daily sealed setup that would be reliable and loud.

Anyways My thoughts are the 6 15's make more sense even though they are slightly lacking in cone area (.468 m2 to 0.4752m2 for the 18's). However, I think I would have a lot less issue with power compression. I also think in theory I should up my reliability.

Although I guess I could have more issues with phase with the 15's

pick a subs that's going to perform better sealed.
What's the EBP of each sub? or at least the Fs and Qes

Honestly they are pretty close to one another

EBP (although I have talked to a transducer engineers who feels that kind of a moot in a car audio application)
40.1 soundsplinter
49.0 JBL

Either way they are both bias towards a sealed application.

On a side note if efficiency is actually measured truthfully for both the 15's are far more efficient.

jbl 92 db 2.83v@1m
SS 89.25

mms:
JBL 260.67 g
SS 373g

Since you're going for an old school kick, you should do twelve 15's but load them isobarically. That would sound good

Ha that would be interesting. I'm actually going to invert the bottom row and make three common chambers to reduce odd order distortion. Compound push pull [Smile] Old school what

I'm thinking of using this for the construction of the box. I have purchased things from these guys before and its top shelf.

Has anyone ever tried using aluminum honey comb material as an interior liner to their enclosure?
