Hello all, I have an issue maybe ya'll can help with. I recently competed with 4 15's ATX1615 from maxxsonics and a Sampson 8000 watt, with 4 yellow top Optimas. Box is supposed to be tuned @65hz, in a 13 cuft. box including disp. and port. But issue is that once in my car a (VW GOLF 03) it measured highest @45hz, and only hit 149.7, i am seriously disappointed of course therfore I need some help....what should i do (new box), (change port)...WHAT..by the way subs are firing up and port facing back, with rear seat removed

I would first increase the enclosure size to around 18 to 20 cubic feet(more depending on port area) and tune it around 38hz to begin and test it at different lengths until you find the loudest length.
300 to 400 sq in port will be ok for this vehicle

Do you have pictures of the install you can post?

First of all thank you dB Don for your prompt response, just so u know my port is right now @ 464 sq.in, and @ a depth of 7.75 in., is there anything i can do without going that much bigger since as u can see by the pics its almost impossible to put a bigger box into that car. Also I've been reading this forum for a while now and see peeps with much smaller and less wattage getting higher dBs. But then again I dont know where you guys are taking your readings from. But anyways here are the pics.. let me know.....

the pics didn't work it took me back to this thread just in a new window. Have you thought of reducing the number of subs I know it sounds crazy but people are doing crazy numbers with 2 sub setups.

i think you have too much port area for a 13cf box. and why are you tuning at 65Hz? that'd make it wanna peak near 70Hz? is this a wall?

Port looks way to big.

How many layers is the baffel. The part where the subs mount. Flex there is realy going to cost ya.

Does the front and rear set of subs move the same ? I'd guess the back subs are going crazy from the port. What I have seen in a box design like this is tuning can be picky. It seems that the front subs over load or the back subs just wont load. 2 subs might be easyer to work with if your just starting out. It wont sound the same to the ear but may be beter on the meter.

I had a hatch back a few years ago and it tuned out that I needed tiny boxs(given that they were 15's) to get good numbers.

In any build thats not a wall I look to what street competitors are doing as they focuse more on the effects of cabin gain.

I'd also stop chasing a freq on paper that looks good and go for what YOUR car wants. Some times it a high freq most of the time it's lower then you would expect or like.

Tuning should be much lower than that. Aim for 49hz, should peak around 54. I just designed a box for a guy with 1 fifteen and 3kw that did high 149's without even fine tuning it (in the same car as you).
I would suggest 12ft3 net with 240-260in2 of port tuned to high 40's.

I personally would keep the shell the same size and shrink the port to 260-300sq and test tuning from 40-46hz.

Thank you all for your support, I will start off with the port @ 260sq.in., and @ a depth of 14" and see what kind of response I get, I will keep you all posted,by Saturday I figure I should have some numbers. Once again thank you very much for all your support and attention.

Well, I shrunk the port as previously stated and the box continues to be tuned to 45hz, and still measured the same, pretty much there was no difference in the measurements.

So therefore I am even more dumbfounded, any more suggestions.
