I know what your saying, but this was the quickest, easiest way to get an 8" port to try out. I may be able to talk the person who owns it into selling it to me and then I can shorten it if I need to, or I can go ahead and buy the parts to make my own. The stuff I would need to make my own is a bit expensive so I wanted to try out one that was already made first and see if it was going to work better than what I have in the car now. Trust me if this is louder than the 2 sub setup I'll drop the $70 it will take for me to make my own 8" port that can be any length that I want.
shouldnt cost you anywhere near $70 if you have a good circle jig for your router.

You need about half a sheet of mdf, sandpaper, bondo, and a bit of resin. If you had to buy it all id say $30 total

My router is broken, I have no circle jig, and it's just plain easier to buy the flares that I need and some tube for the length.

The place that Yuli gave me is $30 or so per flare and I can get the tube length for around $10, so that's where I'm getting $70 for. None the less it's worth the money for an even better score.

Yuli, what if I already have a layer of deadener on my doors? Should I put another layer on top of them, or a layer on the inner door skin?

No, I haven't done anything other than build it and take it to a show where it was burped a few times there.

I have a lot of stuff to do to it and retuning the box will probably be one of the things on the list. I am very happy with the results right now since this is just 6 pieces of wood and a flared port. It makes me happy to think that the score was achieved off of under 5K watts too. I'm excited to see what kind of gain I will get if I doubled power. I'd like to think that 154's wouldn't be an issue at all with the box the way it sits now.

more power = tune lower.

normally 1.5 db gain from doubling the power, if the sub doesnt begin to max out before that.

With limited battery,1.5db holds true, but with optimum battery, and no compression levels are exceeded,we always see a 2.2 - 2.4db gain competing in NSPL.It hasn't been any different yet [Wink]

I typically expect no more than 2.1, sometimes as low as 0.9 if it's already close to being maxed out

You got 4000 watts out of 2 2000 watt amps? Nice power. Reactive load must be down with the smaller box, bigger port, and less coils. Are you running one on each coil or strapped? What is your nominal impedence?

Eric, each amp is seeing .25 since they are strapped at .5 ohms. I'm not sure if it's any different when strapping but with a nominal of .5 ohms I get a reactive of 1.56 ohms. That is a lower rise then what I get out of each amp in my daily box by about .25-.30 ohms. I believe that the rise is lower due to the larger port area with the smaller size enclosure. Also the tuning is higher and it's nice to have less stress on the amps. They will go into protect after the batteries get drained down so I think that I need at least another run of 0 guage to the rear. In NSPL you are allowed to have 3 for the class I'm moving into. I think it's 3 total and not 3 of each which kind of sucks.

Also I wanted to thank you for all of your help. You've answered quite a few questions that I've had and owe a bit of the credit to you for this particular spl build. While I'm at it I'd like the thank my team captain Steve Sears too for all his advice and help with my car this year. Before I joined Team High X-Cursion with my 2 15's I was doing a 148.6 on the dash. Something was wrong and with 10 minutes of help from steve I was up to a 149.7 like that. All in all I'm up 3.6db since joining the team. There is still more to come if we can get some time to test before finals. Like I said before I think that I can get a 154 out of this box with a few minor changes and some deadener. There is just so much to test and the number that it put up off the bat is great.

Thanks Eric! Hopefully I'll set a new NSPL record to top the one I just set a few weeks ago. NSPL finals is just a few weeks away, I can't wait to see what this setup will do with a day or two of testing instead of 5-6 burps in the lanes to try and find a frequency and then say phuck it to see what it does.

Update from NSPL finals I was able to do a 152.6 on the dash with right at 5K watts the way NSPL clamps amps. This is not actual rms power but closer to peak power. My rms is much lower than that. I won the Car 3601-Up World Title this year. I also did a 155.2 in the kick with the same power and won the Car Hardcore World Title. It was a good year for me in NSPL and I'm working to have the world's loudest Focus ZX3.

I'm looking at going with 2 12's for the upcoming season but I haven't ruled out a single 18 either.
