I have an 03 cavalier with a dd 3512 and a orion 2500d running at .7 ohms with 2 yellow tops. My current box is at 2.5 cubic feet and before i upgraded the amp from my us amps 100hc, i always peaked at 40-43hz no matter what i tuned the box to. now i have a box that i threw in tuned to 55hz with a 72 in square vent in a 2.5 net cubic foot box and the outcome sucked. I have tried a bunch of boxes and am now wondering if i should vocus on shrinking my box now that i have a decent amount of power. Any help?

if you tuned the box at 55Hz, it's going to want to peak around 60Hz. That's way too high for a trunk car. The vehicle itself it going to have resonance around 42-45Hz.

So, you're best box is going to be tuned around 39-42Hz most likely.

ok so i cut my current box to 2.0 cubic feet outside demensions are the following. 30 inches wide X 15 inches tall X 11 inches deep. I have 2x 4" ports at 17" long. Do you think having the sub that close to the wall is a killer? from wall to wall inside is 9.5 inches.

You trying to get loud for spl or music? Either or dealing with a slot port is pretty tough.

The two 4's would be loud if done right. Check out my post. This might help a lot. But for spl keep the box small around 3.5-3cf but no smaller.

did you test out your box on a mic what did it do for numbers. you shouldn't make changes until you meter your car. i have the same one and it peaks at 49 or so.

ok so updates. i used the same box at a previous comp which is the follow, these are external demensions. the box is 30" long by 15" tall by 11" deep. i have the ports and sub on same side.. 2 external 4" ports firing sideways into the driver side of my car with the ports towards the back and the sub towards the front. the ports are at full length so 17" for both. bbp says tune is right around 40. i hit a 144.3 at 43 hz. i will be cutting the ports by an inch and will test some more but after i max it out, i will be making the box smaller.
