Hey guys.

Been searching the forums for a few days, and couldn't find much about Pioneer SPL's, or Champion PRO's. Does anyone currently run them?

I picked them because they seem like a great value for an 800w RMS sub, which is what I need to stay in a low power class. Also, a nice stiff suspension, and lots of good recommendations of their build quality. There are better, there are worse, but I'm impressed.

According to some archived forum posts, the subs enjoy 40-45 Hz in a normal sized (1.5 cubes each) and enjoy 50 Hz in a HUGE 4 cubes box.

I'll be finding the resonant frequency of my Toyota RAV4, in a week or so, using a 1 cube box and the ol' Radioshack meter. The baseline tune will start from there.

Anyways, my question. What style of box will suit a pair of 10's and the layout of the RAV4 for SPL?

Don't worry, I won't be breaking records, just want 145 dB and a fun time at competitions.

Thanks,
Chris

well once you find the freq you want you need to build box after box after box.sorry but this is what everyone will tell you.unless someone here has ran a rav before. I would try the
(crx box) woofers up 6" areo ports back or custom made 7.5" areo port back.how much power do you have to mess with?

Considering the limitations for USACi and my cash balance, I'll be using a Hifonics Brutus, with 1600w RMS@ 1 ohm to power 2 of the Pioneer Champion PRO 10's.

For now, I have an old Lanzar Vibe that pumps 500w RMS @ 4 ohms, though its classified too high for competition use.

Cause you guys like pix,

well i think you will have your hands full trying to hit a 145 unless you have one of those loud vehicles. but anyways try the crx style box and see where you go from there

should be easier to reach your goal in USACi, since they measure in the kick, and with door/window venting. That should give you a score 2-4dB. So your 145 in USACi might only be a 140-142 in dBdrag legal

Last time I did USACi, it was passenger dash, but I digress. If 140+ dB were all I cared about, then everybody's ok, right? [Wink]

You guys are talking about CRX box like this
 -
cause that's a sexy box [Razz]

or this kind
 -

Can someone correct my theory about CRX boxes, if it's off?

1) We are trying to get the subs up high (near the top of the back seats) so they get a direct path to the mic.
2) We use IV =1.2-1.5 cubes per 10" sub, to keep a little air stiffness in the enclosure, but enough to get deep enough for our special frequency.
3) We use huge aeroports to the rear, to maximize efficiency (get the deebees out). Then setup constructive interference from the "port sound" bouncing off the trunk and rear glass, to make a giant horn enclosure.

Summary: get all the sound, get it in phase, get it to the dash. All the while, making sure the woofers and cabin are working comfortably.

I'm keeping it general so we don't give away anybody's designs, since I'm not the only guy on this forum, and some are more competitive than others.

Thanks in advance guys.

Depending on your resonant frequency of your car you'll be looking anywhere from 1-1.75 cf for each 10". If your resonant frequency is in the high 40's then the little anywhere from 1.5-1.75 will probably be best and if it's in the low to mid 50hz range the smaller box from 1-1.5cf would probably be best. You could use two 6" aeroports or a single 8" depending on how fare you want to go. End the end it'll take some testing to find the size that is loudest. Just remember start big because you can always shrink a box pretty easy instead of making a bunch of boxes.
