Just as the title states. How much did you gain?
My score with my box facing forward is 2 dbs down from facing back and 1.8 dbs down from facing to the side. I am afraid if I do go through all the work off sealing off the trunk my numbers will be worse then if I just faced it back.

If you're using a slot port you'll probably loose spl by turning the box forward and try sealing it off. When facing an enclosure forward you'll gain spl only if you can tune the port. Most likely facing back was loading the port and now that it's forward nothing loading the port.
Also did you try raising your frequency when facing forward. When facing forward with same port tuning you shortened your wave which raises your frequency.
But once a box is tuned for facing forward most of the time the box is loudest facing forward but pushed all the way inside the trunk. And then sealing it off is another gain. This has worked in all trunk cars that I've suggested and tried it in.
Good luck.
