Does higher spl mean more bass?? I saw someone wrote in here that a truck with 8-15s could shake your shirt off at 15feet from the vehicle but a guy with more spl you could barely hear outside passing buy? Is spl a misleading figure?

Hmm good question. But I think simple pyhsics can solve it. spl doesnt mean bass. bass is just used."I could only imagine the number if we could use like 500hz" Anyway 8 15's will usually play deeper therefor bigger waves. And bigger waves are harder to stop so they will pass right through your doors ect.. ect... But a guy that plays 80hz tones and kicks the 8 15's guy in spl wont sound as loud with his car sealed.
Correct me if Im wrong on that someone but I think it is all right.
To some it up the bigger the sub the deeper it plays the deeper it plays the bigger the wave the bigger the wave the harder to stop

Hey- Is that like why when I had a pair of 15" sub's in my room you couldn't turn it down enough so it wasn's possible to hear/feel upstairs, but I could run a pair of 8's 5 times as loud without anyone being bothered?
Cool

What it really comes down to is tuning frequency. A system that has a tuning frequency of say 45 hertz is typically going to "seem" louder than a vehicle with a higher tuning freq. Most spl cars are tuned much higher than that to take advantage of a shorter wave length (as mentioned earlier). Deeper notes are easier to make more intense without a ton of power. Obviously, if you have bigger or more woofers, you will be able to play deeper at a louder level because the more cone area, the more air you move (as long as the system is tuned to play that low). That is why here in the midwest we have put systems into 2 bass catagories..... street bass and meter bass. Hope this helps!!!!

A agree partially yet not completely. I have seen that the more drivers (subs) you have the further it carries outside the vehicle, but the more power per driver the more pressure (SPL) seems to be created. Granted that is assuming the same vehicle with the same interior ie not one with mods and one without (obviously the one with mods won't be as loud outside!) This is from my own experience. Example When I first got into SPL 7 or so years ago, I had 16 15's and 100 watts each (1600 watts total) and that thing was soooooooo loud that you could hear it comming from 1 1/2 miles away (no joke)! The best SPL score it ever got was 149.4 dB legal... But now, I have two 15's with 1500 watts to each (3000 total) and it has way higher SPL scores 152+ dB drag yet it neither feels as loud in the vehicle nor does it travel as far (As a matter of fact, it is barely audible outside of the van)... One last note- they both hit hardest at 50hz and neither vehicle has and had ANY cab mods!!!!!!

I agree.. take a look at the car at this link.. It has 42 10" subs with like 100 watts each, I blieve, and it hit 155.8 dB I believe at the last competition it was at, but it hurts pretty bad if you sit in it, and it rattles peoples walls like 1/2 mile or farther away when it plays.
