That was how I spent my vaction. Loud dosn't happen on its own or with out work. There was 6 days from 8 Am (ish) to 11Pm spent useing a generator for power in the state game area. I was 7 miles from the nearest house. That allowed me to do what needed to be done with out distraction.

I tryed ever thing I could think of that week, in the end it did pay off. Looking back I think I could have found more SPL but we live and learn every day.

I have about 300 more pics that are not on line, if people need pics of any area in general or a finshed part I can try and dif them out.

Also if any 1 has a better pic of me at finals of pics on my van please post them here. My wife forgot to save the picture she took so I have very few. My 1st finals and only a hand full of pics.

A few things I might add. Over the last year myself and Team BK have shared every bit of knowledge we have both found with a Astro in No Wall.

Here are a few things we brained stormed up that were never tested in a finshed product.

The top of the box as far as depth has a lot to do with the freq you will play. The deeper the top of the box the lower the freq it has.

TESTED TRUE, depth of box WILL affect tuneing freq.

Sealing the box at the B-pillars gains. TRUE

Sealing the top of the box to the sides of the van.

TESTED FAILED, this is a loss no matter how it is tryed, we were unable to under stand why.

Back door seals--DUH, Driver door let it leak, Pass side door SEAL IT UP GOOD !!!!

A windshield urathane that is hard was a gain. There are a few diffrent types and the they that stays soft lets the glass flex, in my testing the flex was a negitive thing and offen would caused the meter to fall off the windshield. Once I had the glass cut out and resealed with a harder window urathane there was a change in freq and the meter no longer fell off as easy.-True and strange.

TESTED ---heavy wet towel shoved under/against back doors also helps, the Astro has a poor latch setup.

Back door panels, the driver side has more effect then the passanger side. TESTED

The slideing door is a MUTHER to get to seal at the top of the B-pilar, do what ya can it WILL help. TRUE

Now some things that me and BK came up with at finals. I have tested and they show signs of promis with a good amount of work.

We know the top of the box affects the tuning, we also know a astro takes a few seconds to peak the meter. Carpet ON TOP of the box WILL affect the speed that the wave travels, with time this could be perfected to control the speed of the wave. It would take a large varity of diffrent types of carpet and testing in any where from the entire top of the box to just a small section. I truly belive this is a viable gain once perfected. This could end up as simple as just a spray on bed liner type of thing but it would need lots of testing.

The same applys to carpet/egg crate foam in the box. Due to the way the subs sit in the box the wave gets hooked in the box. There could be a gian useing a asorbant deadner to control and adjust this. I played with it a little and it does have some strange effects, enough to justify time in testing this. It also freq from the little bit I did try this.

Adding true depth to the port as you would find in a daily driver setup has a a postive affect. Just adding depth to the baffel seems to build to much cone pressure. By the time you get a BIG port like I did and make a thick baffel the cones start to build pressure in the cutout. A true port with depth did shows signs that it will work. This does add a new part to the puzelof SPL and can make for a LOT of time invested. I have worked with this and seen impressive gains in the 156Db range but given the complexty it adds it was not worth it at that time.

Shapes in the back of the van also have unpredictable affects, they could be good they could be bad. Lots of testing would be needed.

These are some of the key points I think could be used, however they may not be as simple as 10 hours of testing, some may require 50+ hours to see any real gain.

Be ready to stock up on pasanger side mirrows. I broke 3 houseing off the van and just the mirrow glass a few times. Once you get the wave where it needs to be the passanger side door is going to get the crap beat out of it up front by the dash.

Once again these are ideas I'm shareing as they may help some one else in the future. I can not prommis any thing but I felt they were worth bringing up.

Good luck to all !!!!!!

Nice setup, but what kind of wood are you using it doesnt look like MDF? I have tried other woods from ply wood to partical board and it couldnt hold the pressure. Im wondering and I hope its not a dumb question.

Holy old post

13 ply birtch. It's stronger then MDF, dosn't swell with humidty or water and weights a LOT less. Down side is it costs about 1.5Xs what MDF does.

When I cut this box out of my van belive me it wasn't going any where. It took me 2 days with eevry thing I could throw at it to get the SOB out. The way I did the back with the criss cross 2x6's was stupid strong.
