Not trying to jack your thread but I figured while we're on the subject...

Also, which model was the equivelant in a non-high current model? Wasn't there something like an Extreme 2225 or Extreme 2250?

Any comparisons between the Orions listed and something like the old school Precision Power D350m? Reliability? Sound Quality?

I had a couple of them in the early 90's and I have yet to see anything like it. There are so many brands out there its almost impossible to find its equal. The sound quality was king and the low frequency's were unbelievable. Back then they were $1600 an amp. Now they are like dinasaurs.
I would just like to find an amp that dished it out like the beast. It seemed like the more subs you added to it the more it put out. Remember this amp was outlawed for some time in the SPL circuit.

I had the 2250 (black one) and it was stolen. It put out just over 1000 watts at a 4 ohm mono load

The amp was good back in the late 90s but when I started using MTX 1000Ds then the 81000D and then 1501D, I was much happier.

The Orion sounded good because it is class AB and made good power, but not enough power for me and it drew too much current. It was big in size which I kind of liked but wouldnt have worked out trying to shove 8 of these in the back of my Horizon. Also, I learned to hate those stupid harness plugs they have.

The MTXs sounded just as good and made more power while consuming less energy in a smaller size.

So you think that MTX would be a good fit to replace the power this beast did? I put one on 8 15's and I could not sit in the truck no more than 5 minutes. What do you know about the MTX 4000D? Can you compare the 2?

The MTX 4000D is much more powerful.
I would say that a single 1501D would be equal or just a little louder than the beast.
We played around with the beast in my bros van and did a max 144.8 dB with 1 15" RFL, then I put in one of my 1501Ds and did a 145.6
This was a 1 ohm load
I measured output of my 1501Ds at an average of 1900 watts per amp at 1 ohm and 2180 w at .65 ohms

I loved those amps! Actually the 2250SX was better in my opinion but ive probably had about 20 2100 HCCA's and about 16 2250SX's in my time. The entire SX line was awesome. 222SX, 250SX, 2125SX and 2250SX. then when they changed logo's (big mistake) they added the 275SX and 2150SX. For the HCCA's there was the 225, 425, 250, and 2100. And dont forget about the GX and GS series that were before the SX's. They also had the best ever signal processors. 3100SVF, 200CRX, 300CRX, 600EQM, 300PRQ, and the 500PMQ. Can you tell i miss the old Orions?? [Sad]

the answer to your question is.....there is no equal! [Big Grin]

Orion equipment from 1988 to 1990ish is my all time favorite.

i miss my 1501d's. i had 2 running a single tc4hp 18 paper cone about 2 years ago... those amps ran suprisingly well off just 2 red tops (1 front 1 back) and a stock 90 amp alty. was doing about 144db legal with a ****ty box.

i highly recommend kicker kx/zx 2500.1's. worth every penny. my single kx 2500.1 > 2 1501d's

You must have a very strong alt or 2 or 3. Those amps drink current but they also put out good bass.
I had 2 with a 300 amp alt and a 8 yellow tops. They were still drawing alot of current but the bass was very strong.
