Not saying it won't work Gavin, Just not the approach I would have taken was all. What you are doing may work fine and will for sure allow you to start with a larger enclosure since its mostly attached to the walls of the inside of the vehicle. Just saying like I did before that You could have built an entire shell outside of the vehicle and then put it in through the side door. That was just my approach on it when I built mine and you remember what I told you it did with the limited equipment it had. It was nearly 40 cubic feet and removable. Keep up the nice work and it will pay off in the end.

WOW!!! someone gets it!!!! with a car of that size it would been a hell of alot better to start the box outside of the car, and use l brackets to secure the roof and build down, even LiL Scrappys box was built outside of the car and put in through the door.

I built a shell for my astro that was 58" wide x 44" tall x 32" deep. It went right through the side sliding door.

how come every time someone see's something off about a build they don't know what there talking about??? and i am not the 1st to state the poor use of the 2x4s in this post, i build boxes for a living so i think i know what i am saying, if you follow all of these yes it looks good people you going to have a not so loud build.

i have stated this on a few other builds with bo who it's Quad well those other builds were not loud or never seen again here???

Quad, I'm a neutral person so I will say this in a calm un-bias manner.

1: I can not find where anyone stated I used the 2x4's poorly.

2: My good friend GB Pro only suggested another way to build my box which might have been much easier then what I'm doing.

3: I understand that you build boxes for a living so you should know somethings about box building ( not everything! somethings) I checked your site, I did not see any thing that comes near a van build. most of your stuff looks like its designed for show cars and everyday boomers. (no disrespect, boxes looked nice).

4: If you know or can show me one of your builds that you used in an astro holding 4 18's that will take almost 74k+ I would be very greatful, maybe I can learn something that will get me louder then I already am. but if you can not, please don't say my design will not be loud. That is just not right and an unfair judgement on MY box building skills.

5: For the record, I'm the third loudest here in Japan, and that was due to me only using my 2 Goliaths instead of 4, and I still pulled a 55.6 so I would say that I may not be as good as you BUT... I'm no dam slouch.

Quad, I hope you do not take this reply the wrong way but you saying my build will not be loud rubbed me the wrong way.

it's ok but i do think you will have some problems with those 2x4 in the future i have done hundreds of builds sence 1987 when i started tons of walls in cars trucks vans whatever if i posted all my builds i would need a new server also keep in mind a few of us were in this way before the internet. your number is ok but keep in mine i am doing 158+db with one Concept 800watt amp legal and one of your amps cost more than my whole system wood and all??? keep in mine my honda 600 once sported four 18" and could shred newspaper, there are many pic's from show results on db drag here to see. good luck but i think you need someone there to help with the build.

Quad: What problems will Gavin have in the future? Termites?

I too have done many builds over the years and actually recommend 2x4's as a great frame for the structure of the enclosure. These enclosures are still holding strong and that is after 4 years. Most enclosures are built and removed several times over the course of an SPL vehicles' lifetime.

You state that you have a 158+ dB Legal with a single 800 watt amplifier? What constitutes legal? What meter, what event and what was your mic location?

Shredding paper is simple. It just takes a design with high port velocity. You obviously had that as well as a small vehicle. I'm sure Gavin will shred some paper just for you.

Rather than crap all over peoples builds and ideas, offer something positive to the community. I am sure that Gavin would be guaranteed a 180+ with Quad wood and a Quad design. Right?

Keep up the good work Gavin!

please link me to the honda 600, I would really like to see that. [Smile] Quad, I'm not asking to see all of your builds, just the ones that support your score. a few would be nice. vans would be even better. and what problems do you for see with my build (2x4's) don't just comment, educate. and for the record, I was around when there was no internet too!
