have you thought about mounting a panel in front of the subs to break up the direct wave to the windshield....
then seal over your port and burp on low power...see where the volume of the cabin tends to sit without box peak?
then do less test burps, at higher power with everything back to normal....
and adjust the box between those burps

Gavin, send me your results if you've been putting them into the excel program and I should be able to lead you in the right direction. [Smile] Sounds like you may have some good info in the charts from all of that testing.

Wow! I cant beleive I havnt seen this post until now! The build looks good Gavin... keep up the good work! As far as finding your freq. just play it safe if you are in doubt. I wouldnt risk blowing anything else up. From the looks of things I would guess your peak to be in the 55-65hz range. I would start at around 65hz and monitor your VAC and AC amperage out of the amps and go up to about 50-60 volts per amp (making sure the amperage stays below 25 or 30 amps and go from 65hz to 60hz and see if you gain... if so, you know your peak is lower than 65. Then go from 60 to 55... if you gain, you know your peak is lower than 60... if not you know it's somewhere between 60 and 65. You can narrow it down from there. No need in playing every freq. between 40 and 80. You can narrow it down real quick by initially skipping in 5 to 10hz increments.

As far as charging, you need to have it set on 16v, AGM low, 25A, and leave it charging all the time. The only time I would turn it off, is when you are going to turn the amps on. This will keep your voltage as consistent as possible, and you wont have to worry about that skewing your spl score.

Good luck with the testing... it's the best part! [Smile]

Well, I did some more testing today, again still trying to find my boxes freq. now just using 2 amps,taking it easy on the system until I find my freq. It seems like my box is tuned REALLY HIGH. At volume level 20 @ 76Hz I pulled a 148.9. that was the highest so far. I still have a few more clicks to go but just looking at my notes. it seems like I'll be playing in the High 70's. is this ok??? [Freak] I would hate to see what's gonna happen when I connect all 4 amps! As for the battery charging, I check them after every 5 burps, if they are below 17.0 charging time. [Smile]

you're frequency might drop a couple hertz once you're feeding the subs major power

As the sub moves more, it displaces more air and changes some of the acoustic characteristics of its environment.
Lower frequencies seem lower pitched when played very loud.

Still, 76 hz seems too high, thats about what extreme cars play. You should be more in the 60 hz range.
Maybe the port is too large of an area and/or not long enough.

I just studied some of your pics. In my opinion you shouldnt stagger the subs.
I think you should smooth out the bottom of the box right below the bottom sub.
And you should extend the baffle width and reduce the port width.

I did these things in my SS 1-2 car and went up 3 dB and changed my note from 66hz (which was too high) to the proper 62 hz.

Thanks for the advice but, I can only remove 1 spacer from the bottom sub setup. If I remove anymore, it will hit the step behind it. As for smoothing out underneath the sub, that is gonna happen soon. Right now, finding my freq is the biggest problem.

here are the box numbers using BBpro 6
H=32.5
W=38.5
D=20.5

Port
H= 32.5
W=18.5
D=4" (that's the baffle board itself!)

note. the step is not included. did not know how to fit that into the specs... Going by BB pro. I should have an Fb of 60.27. My total cu.ft is 14.84 and the Vb is 15.09. again this is using the software.
holla when you can

Well, today was a good day I must say. It was my first time breaking 150! I managed to get a 152.6 this evening right before I had to shut down for the night. Now I know its not much being that I have a mack truck heavy hauler setup carring a panda. but for me its a start.

Batt level 17.9v (16 battery bank)
freq. 74Hz
Db 152.6
Ac Volt 62.8
Ac Amp 21.52
Reactive 2.92 (not sure, good or bad,explain please)
output wattage 1351.46
# of amps in usage (2)out of 4

I still have to try 75 ~ 77Hz and see what they will give me Very Happy
Hey, is there a way to guestamate what I would be doing if I had all 4 amps running?

If I had the time and a nice place to work, it might be possible, but since I have to work at my house, out side, in a very respectful neighborhood ie. doctors, lawyers etc. my testing time is very limited. Now, if I had a nice garage to play in...hmmmmmm

Well, I'm leaving for NYC today but before I go, I just had to find out what my car will do. I couldn't crack any windshields or shatter any side windows but at 75Hz @ vol level 32 with all 4 amp @ 82.5 v I managed to pull a 156.4 [Big Grin] Sorry, Mike, did not have time to clamp and setup the DMM and take numbers. I was happy for a few minutes, then I had to put the sensor in the port, just for S&G. and got a 163.5 [Eek!] Dam!
 -
inside the port.. I know its nothing but I can have a dream can't I??

Now, if something happens I know my car would bring me a 2nd. place trophy here in J-town:)

Now, knowing my peak freq. what do I how should I start to tune this baby to get to 160? example, Make the box smaller, angle boards etc. after I get back, I'll have only 1 week to tune.. advice please

After all the hell and high water, tons of questions and a huge f**kin phone bill, it all payed off!
 -
 -
That's right....FIRST PLACE! with a 155.3 :grin:

Before I continue, I have to give thanks to

1. The Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost
2. The co-owner of Competition Soundz
3. TEAM MAXXSONICS
4. My Kids
5. My good friends here on TP
It was an 8 hour drive one way, hot as hell!! during the qual round, I could only do a 144.5. Amps were hot! no one got over a 145, but around 5pm, when the sun went down, fun time started. I was first, bam 155.0 @ 75Hz. I was suprised, ok things started looking good. Everyone else was doing 47's and 48's. So as the show went on I got with another competitor who was half japanese and half Brazalian (dante crossed my mind! lol)
 -
tried to be a nice guy! but I had to stick em!!
 -
due to the glare, you couldn't see the score but it was 155.3 to his 143.5 GAME OVER! PACK IT UP, PACK IT IN! LOL
I know the car can do more but for today, she did good, and again thanks to The Team for all the help and advice to get me that trophy.

Now, here is something I've never seen done to a jag.
 -
only in Japan. Well, that's about it until the next comp.
