I'm just looking for advice / opinions on the amount of advantage using a high note offers . I currently use 10 x 12 inch subs in a sealed enclosure and I hit 151's using 47Hz . If I were to go totally against my principles and use a high note , does anyone have an approximate guess what increase I could expect . Would it be worth bothering testing , or should I just carry on as I am ???
Thanks in advance

Well it is perfectly legal to use a high note in local competitions. But on a higher level such as triple point events there is an 80 hz filter implemented. So if you are competing on this level than why even bother with a high note all year and then not be able to do the same numbers at finals.Wouln't make sence to me....But I haqve seen as much as a 4-5 db increase by using a high note. All setups are different, but mine does its highest reading at 50hz.So a higher note hurts my SPL.....

Another thing to consider is that 'high notes' usually only work when the cab of the vehicle has been modified. Most vehicles with stock cabs gain little if nothing when using a high note. It seems to be most effective with very small interiors that have highly reflective surfaces (no carpet, seats etc.) Also, I've found that certain drivers like the JL have no second peak, and roll of above 100hz.

I have been around a lot of loud cars recently, I have seen close to a 6dB gain in almost all cases by playing a higher frequency. If you tried playing 47, you should try 94Hz. But like they said it dont count for the big shows.

I don't live in the US though , so the 80Hz filter doesn't really come into it . There is a 100Hz filter at some shows though . My cab is heavily modified , but not so much in an SPL way - the dash , roof , floor and doors have all been rebuilt but not purely for SPL . I may try the higher note if I have time before this weekends show , but I think porting may be the way to go
Thanks Again
