I'm building a box for 2 10's to compete in street A.

It will be about 34" wide and 12"-14" deep.

Is it worth while using threaded rod to brace the box?

I thought I read somewhere that it caused too many problems with air flow/turbulence so it wasn't really worth it.

Does anyone have any experience with this? [Confused]

If you use any internal bracing those threaded rods work great but a lot of people will tell you to brace outside the enclosure.

What I like is to put the port in the middle running from the top to bottom of the box and acting as a huge internal brace, especially if it is quite long.

Of course that probably isn't the loudest design, but it works very well if you aren't going for super high scores

there are vents bigger then your box that have plenty more pressure against there walls. One layer of 3/4" would be overkill.

I used small triangle cut pieces of MDF on our S-10 box. [Cool]

Threaded rod is the shiznit.

I used it on my dual 10" box for slap stock 1. One of the most solid boxes I've ever built. Stayed strong with 2 SEXXX's and a pair of mojo's at full tilt. Having the box completely resined helps as well [Wink]

As for corner angle bracing.....It works. It braces well. But it creates unnecessary turbulences within the enclosure than can bring your score down. SPL is about getting every single 10th you can out of that box.

I've used it in many applications and have seen nothing but gains - However you can tighten the rod down too tight and 'pinch' the enclosure and hurt your spl. Things like this just need to be tested [Smile]

Cool... thanks all.

I've decided not to go with the threaded rod.

I've laminated/bolted a couple of pieces of 3/4" together so the wood is actually 1.5" thick.

I doubt there will be any flexing now [Big Grin]

How much flexing are you trying to prevent? How much flex is there really?

You will be surprised!!! Ive seen 1.5 inch thick flex so we used threaded rod and some resin. No more flex = SPL loss.

actually quite often bracing looses SPL...it dampens the box more so then it adds strength
