This is probably kinda a dumb question, but here it goes. What do you guys think my system could hit, DB wise....
I have a 78 Ford Pinto with 2 MTX 3000 12's in a sealed box being run by a Power Acoustik 500x2 amp that is feeding them 130 watts RMS each. No cabin mods or anything. All i did was just drop subs in the back seat.

2 MTX Thunder 3000 12"
Power Acoustik 500x2
130watts x 2
Can you say DISTORTION!?

you are most likely in the upper 130's. Have you considered porting your box?

I'm thinkin' mid 130s, that sounds about right... Depends on cab leakage and stuff, but 130s are pretty easy... Before Dukk tells you, port your box... You will probably be happier...

Hah.. cab leakage... hell yea. All doors shut and windows closed and you can hear everything pretty much. Its pretty sad since i wana use this p.o.s. car for SPL but i a snowballs chance in hell at actualy getting a half decent score.

Some dude I know used to have 3 punch 12's (8 ohms each) running about 2.6 ohm mono on a 225.2 in a 95 grand am.

Some how he only managed to pull off around 133 db's.

It really wasn't all that loud. I had 1 punch 15 at the time that was louder than his 3 12's. Maybe his box wasn't built right or something...but his wiring was so whacked he couldn't pay me to clean it up for him.

But to stay on the subject here...I'm gonna guess if everything is hooked up right...and boxes are built good and braced(if needed)

hmmm... 135ish...

Patrick, I think your friend was doing something wrong to do 133 with that setup..I would have expected at least 135-138 or so....
Ben, I agree with Patrick's guess of about 135-ish for your system.

Heh, well considering i can sit in the car with the doors shut and windows up and volume so its right before distortion listeinng to bass tones, WITHOUT hearing protection... what do you think? 100? haha...

I realize the original message is about 3 weeks old..but I wanted to post on it again.

you said you could sit in your car without hearing protection and stuff. Well...I really wouldn't suggest doing this!!!

I was stupid last night..and maxed out my system, while sitting in the car, impressing people at the bowling alley. And my ears have had a feeling of pressure on them since then. And this was around 5pm last night.

Anytime I turn my stereo up much now...my ears start hurting..and the pressure gets bad again.

Did the same thing but hit the volume knob by accident. "Damn knobs!" now I have to listen to music at 10/35 or my ears start hurting

I know that hurting feeling, any time someone gets into the passenger side of my truck the opening of the door drops my res. frequency by like 25 hz and I gain about 6-9 db... Ouch!!! Its the weirdest thing and it only happens when the passenger side door is opened, the drivers door has no effect... I'll be the only guy the comps with one door open...
