Hi, I am the owner of 2 12inch JBL gt dual voice coil subwoofers. I recentley switched from a sealed box where i hit 143.9db's to a 4cubic foot custom built ported box. The highest i have hit with the ported box is 142.1db's. I thought i was supposed to gain when i switch to a ported. I am running a MTX 2400x road thunder amp rated at 750 watts by one, so about 375 to each sub. I was told to move the ports 4 inches away from the trunk. I have a 92 Pontiac Sunbird, so i have a trunk. For competions i take out the back seat. SO what should i do why am i losing db's, the only thing i can think of is i dont have the air flow i did with the smaller sealed box. I would appreciate any help.

Were the SPL readings for the sealed and ported systems taken on the same meter? If not, then your ported box might be louder, but due to meter differences, you think it's not hitting as hard. Also, knowing what note to play makes a big difference. Chances are, the note that worked with the sealed box will not work well with the ported box.
