I am looking to pick up a little SPL, and I was considering retuning my box a little higher. My note currently is at 50hz. I was thinking of going up to like 70 or 80 and maybe squeeze out a dB or 2. My subs are JL W1's. They are paired in a ported box close to 5 cubes with 2)4"x12" aeroports. If I left my ports the same size and made the box smaller would this effictivly accomplish the task? BTW, I have a wall with 8 12's, all setup as above. I don't want to rebuild the wall, I'll just build little boxes to fit inside each chamber to take up the space needed. Am I even headed in the right direction, or should I be making the box "larger" by adding polyfill or someting. Thanks for any help, anyone might have...

I forgot, I'm currently hitting around 150dB with this setup off of 2 PPI A600's. Next year, I might get some W0's to replace my aging W1's. Looking at new PPI amps to replace my also-getting-crusty Art Series'. Hopefully this will help my SPL too. :^) Wife isn't exactly too keen on the idea of all new equipment at the current time. :^( That's why I'm looking for a quick boost. Thanks again!

Tuning the box higher probably won't pick you up much extra SPL. In any event, yes, taking up space will make the cabinet smaller and raise tuning.
