ok, not literally, but in terms of dB Drag!!
How do u burp / think the best way is :
1) Select the track u wish to play (frequency), hit pause, and then turn the volume on the HU up to the max volume.....Unpause...play for a short while and then pause again.
or
2) As above, but instead of turning the HU up to max volume, set it to about 3/4rs and then ....Unpause, turn the volume up to max....Then pause again.
The difference between the two above, is starting with max volume, or not!

Personally, I like to have my volume closed to maxed out, the CD track number on pause, then take it off pause for 2-3 seconds, then pause it again. I've seen a lot of competitors with their external headunit and equalizer start at zero volume and crank it up. I'm not sure if one method is "louder" than the other method

You dont always want to turn up volume all the way it can cause clipped signals to be sent and amps can shutoff. Sometimes when I turned up volume passes a certain point I would actually lose SPL. But I would find the correct volume and frequency leave it on pause then burp for 1 second wait till last 2 seconds of time then try it again.

Matt - i understand the thing about clipping...i was just wondering if u start a bit down on your 'known' max volume (i.e. where u know it starts to clip) and then turn it up!
This basically stops your amp having to supply a HOOOOG amount of power quickly!

No because if you do that your voltage will drop by the time you get to the correct volume which means you lose power which means youll hit less Common mistake of SPL competitors especially around here.

Matt - i understand what u'r saying! But surely if u do enough testing i.e. check the output whilst increasing the volume (basically how u'd burp it in a competition) then u'll know when to stop!

Start by sitting in your vehicle and keep increasing the volume until you don't hear any change in volume. Then go back down about 3 notches on the head unit. Unpause your CD player at this volume and let it play. Wait 5-10 seconds and do it again, with the volume the next notch up, and so on, do this until your score doesn't go up anymore. When it doesn't go up anymore, the one right before that is your louest volume.
If you have a good button pushing finger, you can start with your head unit at pretty low volume, unpause it and then hold the volume+ button on the head unit. Have another finger on the pause button. Watch the SPL meter display if you can and when your score doesn't go up anymore, hit pause.
