I was just wondering can a CRX box be used in any hatchback style car. Well my girlfriend has a 00'Kia Spectra and I wanted to get her a box made, and I just don't know what kind of box will give great SQ and great SPL in that car. I was thinking ported, but my installer wants to do a bandpass, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Subs will either be (1) Kicker 15L7 or (2) Rockford Power HX2 12's powered by a JBL 1200.1. Thank you.

I just want her to have enough bass. She isn't going to compete with the system, just street beating that sounds very good. I don't want to go 1 JBL per, because I just got through doing that and the spiders kept blowing off the Powers. I wasn't distorting them, I think the box just wasn't big enough, or maybe the speakers were overheating, me and my installer couldn't figure it out, so when the subs come back, i'm giving them to her and I'm ordering my 9515's tomorrow. But I was thinking that 1 L7 15 would do her justice, she just want's to beat out all the girls around here and half of the guys, but also sound good while doing it.

I have "CRX" style box in my S-10 Blazer and it hits really hard . I think that a "CRX" box will do well in your G/F's car , just make sure you have enough room in front of the port/ports . As for the subs , I dont know , if you were ripping the spiders it sounds like you were over powering them , but I run punch HX2's on about 900 watts RMS each and have never popped one yet . For street beatin that setup should sound kicka$$ .

Just to let you know, to make a CRX box work properly, you would need 12 inches behind the box, and then the box is 24-29 inches forward. That's almost 4 feet in front to back. Also, there needs to be enough room above the back of the box so that the pressure out of the ports can go forward over the box.

I have a "crx box" in my car, and we are using a larger sized "crx box" in my friend's Focus.

They also work well in some SUVs and Vans.

in most cases, only mainly widely open cars. It has to do w/ the wavelength and other factors that are optimized in hatchbacks/suvs. You might get good results from the same sub up port back idea that the CRX uses, but you would want to play around w/ port sizes and box sizes too.
