I've been seeing the numbers W7s have been putting up, and I'm actually impressed. However, I've used DD before (1 9512) and I was very happy with it but Unfortunately I had to sell it for financial reasons. I Have a Concept CC-D2400a, so should I just get a 9515 and throw it in a 5.5 cube ported box with 100 sq inches of port, or do 1 12W7, I want a 60/40 SPL/SQ.

wait your comparing a 12 and a 15.
i have had my experiences with 9515's in my buddies car before and i would prob have to go with the 9515. for one more cone area. 2 you know you already like it and three the cost differnce.
i would go with the dd

i think JL rate their woofer at 1000wRMS, so not too sure how good/bad it will do in a big ported box with that much power.

However i have heard many dd9515's with lots of power, still sounding good.

if you can get a demo a W7 with similar power like ur amp, then see what it sounds like.

60/40 spl/sq, would qualify for the DDs.
However, since you already have the amp(which is the right thing to do) Now you would have to match the sub.

Impedance is definatley an issue, Depending on the DDs you get, you would probably have more options for impedance matching. With the W7 however you can not do that, you only have 3ohms to deal with [Frown] , now it all depends on how much power your amp is rated at, and what impedance would it be stable down to.

Personally I do not recommend the W7 for 60/40 SPL/SQ ratio, Unless ofcourse you had a Zapco 9.0 the 4 ohm version.

I just looked up the specs on that amp, and I would deinatley recommend a DD, unless ofcourse you can scrape up more green for another W7, then you would be running that amp at 1.5 ohms, which should put out atleast 1200 watts rms.

If you only want 1 sub then the DD is winner here.

Don't flame me, I should have looked at the specs of the amp before I posted first [Smile]

Peace!!!

I think that a 9515 would get louder than a 12w7, but the 13w7 might be closer in output, or may in fact have more output than the 9515, but the 12 most likely won't.

An ALL AMERICAN product....which is the W7. That is exactly what I was gonna say.

Just go with the DD since they give you more options for matching amplifier impedance.

My buddy hasn't officially been on the mic yet, but on my ear mic, I'd say he's doing 146.7dB with a single 12w7 and 1500watts, and once the second amps goes in, and the second sub gets running, he should be doing 152.xdB with 2 12w7's and 3000watts of PPI power. I think that they are great sounding subs that have the capability for very loud output, but they are in no means, an SPL sub, IMO.

9515 would be my pick all the way. I compete against a lot around here. Car Toys of Tulsa did a $32,000 install with 3 12w7's walled off in a 300z with plenty of power, and I have 2 9515's with only 2 D2's. Well where in the same class in slap show and He has not beat me yet.

Unless space is a concern, I see no reason to go W7. I mean, drop the 9515 in a small ported for still more output than the 12W7 and arguably better SQ (depends on taste really). Drop the 9515 in a 5 cube or larger ported box and the 12W7 won't be able to come close in output.
