im running two 12" rfz1412's with 200 watts rms each(of a jensen amp)(i know..i know)and im hitting 134db. im wanting to change either the amp or the subs and was wondering if i upgraded to 2 12"xlc's how much would i gain? also if i used the same subs and upgraded the amp to an rf model what would be gained?i will be only able to change one of these this spring and im wanting to make the biggest difference in quality and spl level.

i would suggest changing the amp first, you woul dnitce a bigger diffrence than changing the speakers. .

I agree with Team X Max. Go with a new amp. Check around at your local shop. If you get to know some of the sales guys/gals pretty good, sometimes you will get a really good deal that you cannot pass up. For example, I used to go to my local shop and used to talk with the sales guys/installers just to get a pointer here or there. One day the salesman asked me if I wanted to buy a Phoenix Gold amp. It is the same one they have in their demo truck ( they built the truck YEARS ago... still pounds a respectable 155+ dB.. 4 woofers, 2 amps for all the woofers.) ANYWAY.... the amp was going for somewhere between $600-1000 I cannot remember. I paid $450 for it. Right now I am only getting 500+ watts out of it, but it is capable of pushing anwhere from 720-1000 watts ( with proper voltage) into 2 ohm mono. So get an amp with as much power as you can afford. But plan ahead. Make sure it is an amp that you can STILL use when you save up and get some more $$$ so you can get your new woofers. Otherwise it would be useless if you get a new amp now, only to buy a new one in a few months...
JMHO...
Gabriel 143dB w/4 Solobarics only 500 watts.

I totally agree. If you change the amp, it should increase your spl. I don't think Jensen is designed to go for high spl. But who knows. Make sure that it is a high quality amp, and not a blue light special. They tend not to work well for comps.

Hey BEER MAN!!!!!!!!
IF I KNEW THEN WHAT I KNOW NOW, WOULD THAT MAKE ME SMART?
