For whatever reason, I find myself unable to post replys in the dB Drag forum, so I'll answer your question here. In 1993, I.A.S.C.A. rules for unlimited SPL simply stated that microphone location was up to the competitor! Brantley's truck at that time had a diamond shaped enclosure and he simply took advantage of it by placing the towards the center of the diamond. His score beat FUkuda's by around 1 dB but later that day Fukuda protested the score and demanded a re-try. By that time, Brantley had shown off his system so much (yes, everybody used to!) that he knew he probably couldn't pull the same number again, so when he refused to run through again, they threw his score out and declared Fukuda the winner. This upset many, and actually was one of the reasons CMAA (Competitive Mobile Audio Assoc. '94,'95,'96) was formed. Hope that helps. And if you're reding this B, feel free to clarify as it has been a while.

Yeah, I remember that!! In Tulsa, right? We were down there with 2 cars in the SQ and 1 Truck in the SPL contest. We had a full size Chevy extended cab with 10 15" subs in the extended cab portion. Back then it was doing 145db......man look at what has changed in 6 years. I watched Fakuda do his 157.9 (playing Flashdance), and everybody was clapping, but I never got to see the other vehicle......I had a blast down there though. Just my 2 cents worth.
