if you are only "burping" a system for a couple of seconds, wouldn't it be better to use a starting battery with more "cranking amps" then a deep cycle with more reserve power?? and would it be better to go with a larger amount of cheaper batteries (ie everstart, plustart) then a smaller number of more expensive ones (ie omptima, diehard)??

That has always been the way I look at it. If you only burping, and every thing else is the same, I think your better off with normal starting batteries, deep cycles really need to be completely discharged before being recharged, or you shorten they're life span.

If it dont fit, force it... if it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyway...

Also going on that I think there is a provision in the warrenty Optima has between the red and yellow tops...That is that if used in SPL system for constant partial discharge and charge the warrenty is void.
