Currently I have a Soundstream 10.2 amp powering 2 Spl 12's. What would be louder, 4 spl 12's in a 4cuft total box, 2 spl170's in a 3 cuft total box, or I thought about trying a couple DD 9000's 12's. It would be installed in a supercab Ranger. I have some experience with SS but I have never heard of DD subs.

how about 2 in the 4 cu ft box PORTED. The bigger the ported box, the happier the sub is, and I don't care who makes it or what they tell you - big ported box! period! Email me if you need help designing your box - no matter what subs you use.

I don't really care for ported boxes. I guess I have never heard a good one before. I like my low bass that a sealed box does. I like the sound of the spl 12's and would like to upgrade to the 170's but I don't like to be dissapointed. Would it sound louder if the speakers were facing up instead of toward the back of the seat? I can't try it with the 12's cause the box they are in is cut on the back specifically for the ranger.
