I know that there are some things in the rulebook that are not currently followed.

Can we either have them removed or enforced?

Here are some examples.
quote:
7-1 Eligibility for competition at the dB Drag Racing World Finals is partially based upon a competitor's point's accumulation throughout the season. To accrue points, a competitor must be a member of the dB Drag Racing Association and must compete at an officially sanctioned dB Drag Racing event. (Officially sanctioned events can be found on our event calendar at www.dbdragracing.com.)

Not enforced. People get their memberships on the last day possible which would mean that they would not be able to get points for finals. Either remove or enforce. Promoters can sell memberships at shows to make it easier for new competitors.

quote:
7-2 Only competitors who actively participate in a dB Drag Racing event are eligible to receive points for that event.

Additional Guidelines:

* Competitors must compete in the event until they either win or get eliminated from the competition.
* At a minimum, competitors must establish a qualifying score.

Example:

* If a competitor is the only entry in a class, the competitor must run through the lanes at least one time. No further participation in the event is necessary.
* If a competitor qualifies for the elimination rounds, and then leaves before he or she is defeated (or wins) the event, the competitor will not receive any points.

People leave all the time or don't return for the second day of a multipoint and still receive points.

These are just the first that pop into my head right now but I know there are more.

the rule should be that you cannot accrue points until you are a member. period

Tor had an idea that all judges could implement have a bar code reader attachment to go with a meter and when you show up at a show the judge scans your membership card you pay and your entrance fee and the computer does the rest

this would take care of memberships and points not being awarded correctly along with event results being visible
the judge could have a default card to scan that is for non members i sure there are more options that this could do but those are a few of the basic ideas.

and if the scanner doesn't work? or if the computer crashes that has the only software on it and you have to use a different one?

I do not want the liabiity of equipment failure for someone not being able to get their points. A simple check box in the software when your entering someone's name for member/non member would work.

What about people going to their first event. So they don't get the points for that show?

I believe (since the inception of dB Drag Racing) pionts have been retroactive, as long as you became a member before the cutoff date.

As for the other rule about competitors sticking around, it's difficult to enforce because you may have a competitor with an emergency (or they claim to have one), and they were the only ones in the class, and qualifying is over with, and they need to leave. Do you deny them points, after they come to you sobbing, needing to leave, after hearing the news that their grandmother was just admitted to intensive care after being runover by a reindeer?

If they are the only ones in the class then they get points. Pretty simple.

Have a checkbox to show they didn't make it to the lanes during brackets. This way the person who left doesn't get points and the guy remaining doesn't have to do a single run and maybe cause him to lose in a later round.

If the scanner doesn't work then enter the competitor number manually. (y'know how they do it at the store if a bar code doesn't work on an item.. they just punch the sku in manually)

How is it a liability if the system doesn't work?

There's still a chance that users won't get their points with the current system, but at least this will help the situation.

Hell... even having the check box as a backup option would work. But I don't see why having the bar code reader could be seen as a negative at all. [Confused]

We do get membership cards....but they don't seem to get used right now. This does seem like a good idea.

that should have been the idea of the bar code on the card in the first place

im sure lots of competitors have a membership card and never used it once

its no more of a liability if your sensor gets run over by an extreme vehicle, or your computer crashes (gotta love windows)

I'm not down on the competitor. I would like to see some things happen. Either enforce the rulebook or change the rulebook.

I think it is disrespectful for someone to not show up in the lanes.
Last year at finals (06) Charles Estes had problems with his son being sick Sat. night. He had pulled the woofers in the van to recone Sat. Come Sunday morning when he had to be in the lanes he got to the center as quick as he could and put the van in the lanes with no woofers in it, just so the other person didn't have to go up against an empty lane.
I have had guys say 4th is what I'll get so I can leave after qualifying. I don't think this is what new people need to see at shows. It is unsportsmanlike.

The use of barcodes is an excellent idea, I've had issues with my name being spelled wrong and having to email Wayne a few times to get it fixed. This would ease the load on Wayne and get rid of a lot of emails and other problems that we all run into. Barcode scanners could be sold along with the show promoters package.
