there is a way to fix everything with out changing anything.

what if te software the does the dbdrag score keeping was altered to take an average of more that the top 3 frequency's

what if it was made to run an average of 2-3 octaves

for instance 20 40 and 80 hz (3 octaves)
or 30 and 60 (2 octaves)

the frequency's could be discussed before the change in the software is made so everyone can just download the update from some dbdrag server somewhere

the rules stay the same the scores drop on an even keel everyone is handicapped at the same rate and the guys that have a prefab box that is tuned for music and plays nominally flat has just as good of a chance to do good.????????

To me it seems like everytime we recude to classes in SS and EX we lose more competitors instead of driving them to combined classes. This causes the chain reaction where we see less competitors in those comined classes the following year and then they get reduced again.

Look at the trend we went from a few in 13+, a few in 9-12, and a few in 5-8 to next VERY few in the now 5+

Reducing those classes takes away people chance for a decent finish in finals which is what some smaller, ess experience and possibly less fortunate competitors need to get the drive to take it to the next level.

My suggestion is as follows

Street A same as street b but with a limit on battery.
Street B same as street C but again with a battery limit.

Street A as it is today was introduced as a class for beginners, it has never been the case and therefore isnt serving the purpose it was originally intended for. Its not far from the cost of Street B nor are the numbers.

Leave Street Max as it is with the addition of new battery requirements.

In both Street and Street Max we need to do something about the multicell batteries. There is noway around them as the rules stand. Only thing I can come up with is a weight limit on batteries. As stupid as it sounds it something that cannot be cheated on. Find a median weight of an average group 34 battery and stick to it while outlawing the $1000+ multicells and li-ion that will be here before long.

Superstreet 1-2 and 1-2nw seem to have a great turnout, so its hard to say do away with NW.
3-4 and 5+ had a mimimal turnout. However how much of that is do to the new finals format and people sitting out the first year to see how it goes. I for one would hate to see those classes combined. IF we cant leave SS like it is than I do like the idea one of the sound mechanic guys made I believe it was 1-2, 3-6, and 7+ or something similar to that.

Extreme I think there is no choice but combine ex 1 and ex 2. Like street A, Ex 1 was intended to draw people into extreme with minimal investment, we all know that didnt happen. Even though the opportunity is there for it few are doing it. Therefore make it EX 1-2, EX 3-4 and 5+

Granted that still leave more than the 10 classes Wayne was leaning toward however I think its a good idea. If we continue to reduce the Ex and SS before long there wont be one and the number we love to see out of the vehicle will be forgot about.

Bring back Mini-street like so many have said and leave it out of finals. That idea worked well before and there no reason not to bring it back.

Street Class fixes:
  • Limit types of batteries
  • Limit runs of power wire
  • Limit # of amplifers
  • Use MSRP limits
  • Restrict types of vehicles
  • Lower frequency limit
  • Longer "burp" time
  • More "averaged" frequencys ( instead of 3 ) for Peak SPL
  • Amp size dementions
  • Limit experience
  • Bring back Mini Street
  • Reduce the number of points
  • Combine Classes
  • Create Classes
  • Fuses
  • All the above

  • Limit # of amplifers--- agree
  • Use MSRP limits--- someone will find a loophole, just because a manufacture lists an msrp doesnt mean it has to sell at that it can go either higher or lower.

  • More "averaged" frequencys ( instead of 3 ) for Peak SPL could work
  • Amp size dementions ---- afraid ti will just turn into who can produce the most power in the smallest package and that wont be cheap
  • Limit experience has not worked in the past
  • Bring back Mini Street-- amen
  • Reduce the number of points-- dont see it changing much
  • Combine Classes
  • Creat Classes
  • All the above

if you think about it the idea i just came up with would be the easiest for all involved.

right now the termlab averages the top 3 frequency's anyways why not just spread those out a little just a small software update!

no change in the rule book
no change in judging battery size.wire runs(or size),amp size, fuse ratings, power classes, any of that ....

you can burp one note and take that averaged over 2 or 3 frequency's you can play music you can burp the 2 or 3 notes that it reads

any one can do it the dbdrag cd is already there and it has all of the frequency's pink noise and music

How does that lower the cost of the "entry" classes?

easily if you buy all of the super gear and build a box that plays 1 note really loud but cant play music you are at a disadvantage

break down:

if you do a 155 at 50 hz what can you do at 30hz
about 140db

155+140=195
195/2 97.5db

its an average of the 2

but if you have a box that plays flat or within5-7
say you do 137 at 50hz
and 129 at 30hz

137+131=268
266/2=134

these are just reference numbers and not tested

also this math will be done on the fly with the meter it will not be any more thinking for the judge or competitor

it lets the guys with small entry systems compete with the big boys

a test on this could help i will work on it this weekend

it might not lower costs dramatically but it will bring back stereos that people listen to .

Here's an idea ...

How about you achieve the competitor's score based upon their frequency and how loud they play it?

Example: lets say I can do a 150@70hz or I can do a 140@30hz which would be better?

It would take more skill to play a lower note louder that a higher note just a loud.

This would bring back vehicles that can play the low notes better.

i don't "want that " but if the major bitch is everyday local guys wont compete its because of their systems wont make the cut, they have ones they listen to and dbdraggers don't

this would even the playing field thats all

and i like the grade on a curve idea, i have thought about that before, it could work nicely!

I say 2 new street classes.Limits on equiptment on need fuses. If no fuses then bump to higher class. Let cars run at idle.

Street A,B,C - same rules but go to 2 classes and only 1 battery. Limits of amplifiers and batteries.

SM 1-2 and 3-4 - combine them. Allow up to 4 amplifiers and 2 batteries. No limits on woofers

SS NW - No Floor cuts and no limits on number of woofers.

SS 1-2 Leave as is

SS 3-4 Leave as is

SS 5-8 Bring back a classic!

SS 9+ Bring back a classic!

EX-Base it on cabin. Have a class based on the current rules and another on the old 2 people can fit rules. It will bring back some crazy designs and maybe bring some of the old ex guys back to dB Drag.

yeah, sorry. lots of sleepless nights. This 2-3am shiz has got to stop!

I fixed it, also fixed SS3+ instead of 3-4

New Street 1 ( Street A with 1 amp, 50hz limit, fuses, 1 strain of power wire per amp, limit batteries to AGM or lead acid types no multi cells)
New Street 2 ( Street B with 1/2 conductors [ 2 amps ], 50hz limit, fuses, 1 strain of power wire per amp, limit batteries to AGM or lead acid types no multi cells)
Pro Street A ( Street A with 1 amp)
Pro Street B ( Street B with 1/2 the conductors[ 2 amps])
Pro Street C ( Street C with 1/2 the conductors[ 4 amps])
Street Max ( Combine 1-2 and 3-4 ) Allow up to 4 amplifiers ( 8 conductors )and 2 batteries. No limits on woofers
Super Street 1-2 No Wall
Super Street 1-2
Super Street 3+
Extreme ( 1 class )
Monster ( anything goes )

i was asking because there is no rule on battery conductors but there is a rule on conductors to the speakers

so how would you take the rule and 1/2 it?

although 1/2 of the conductors to the woofers would make a change in B and C but in A there would be a problem how do you get a woofer to work with only one conductor?

How about keep Streetmax 1-2 seperate and just change Streetmax 3-4 to Streetmax 3+ but only allow a maximum of 8 amps?
So maybe someone can run 6 15's with 6 amps?
I personally would like to run 12 12s and 6 amps or 6 15s and 6 amps. [Smile]
