Currently I'm using Allison Kraus' "New Favorite". Great recording, fun music, extreme production quality. And it's available in multichannel SACD, too, which is really quite good when set up properly (in our demo room).

Pink Floyd, "On The Run"/"Time"/"Breathe Reprise" from Dark Side of the Moon - great drums and interesting bass, with an excellent guitar solo
Manic Street Preachers, "Everlasting" from This is My Truth Tell Me Yours - Very well recorded with a great soundstage and vocals.
Ben Folds Five, "Don't Change Your Plans" from the Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner - At first I thought the hiss was from a bad recording; then I realized it was the cymbals continuing to crash. Just amazing. "Mess" and "Magic" from the same album - more good music.
Time to go to class now, sigh Posts: 184 | From: Columbus, IN | Registered: Aug 2002

These are some of the songs I use to showcase my system.... and they're actually songs I enjoy listening too... unlike those competition mix cd's lol.
Let me know what you think (may sure you download at least 192 bitrate versions)
I just ripped a bunch of their songs and burned the CD 2 days ago. Last nite I popped the CD in my H/U and was blown away!!! The song gets loud, yet remains that crystal-clear production found on the rest of their catalog.

Dave matthews is good. The first CD I ever listened to where I could get a sense of not just left and right, but left-center and right center as well as center was Collective Soul's Self Titled album. Popped that in soon after setting up my Rainbows and my mouth dropped. It also helped me realize my soudstage needs a bit of work LOL.

How do you like your Kicker KX800.4? I've got some ID 6.5 Chameleons that will be taking 200W each from the 800.4. Unfortunatly, I'm now saving for a Nissan 300ZX TT and am saving all the stereo equipment for it. The entire system is sitting in boxes in the guest bedroom.
Anyways, Are you happy with the output and SQ of the amp? Any problems with it? Thanks.

AC/DC did NOT do Sweet Child of Mine!!! it's Guns 'N Roses
orchestral pieces are okay for midrange and some imaging if it's a properly set up symphonic orchestra. They don't have any bass though, and most pieces lack percussion too, so don't be looking there for high highs either.
I like a lot of jazz for SQ. The newer stuff, not classic jazz (the quality of those recordings typically suck)

May not be what you want, but try this... Any Lyle Lovett. He really takes pride in his recordings. Billy Thorpe-children of the sun Queen-it's a kind of magic and who wants to live forever Junior Brown-Junior High(the whole album is only 5 songs, but they are very good) And kind of cheezy,Yanni-live at the Acropolis.

Hell, Cheesy or not, Live at the Acropolis sounds awesome on a nice system. Other stuff I use:
Hotel California off Hell Freezes Over anything by the Rippingtons Fear by Sarah McLachlan(hell, all of her stuff just sounds flat out amazing) Pull Me Under by Dream Theater A Change of Seasons by Dream Theater Boys of Summer by Don Henley anything by David Benoit DMB has some really nice sounding stuff Pink Floyd has tons of great sounding stuff too

just noting that there is an audible difference between pro mastered cds and burned cds, at least in the experience of everyone that i've talked to about it you sound like you're into some real high end stuff, sounds good to me. i posted a similar post and they told me the telarc label is a good place to look as well.

Anything off of Yello's Essential cd. There's lots of great elements in their music, and for some reason, the cd seems to be recorded to a higher standard or something. It's probably the best sounding CD I own.

Probably the best overall CD fro testing(IMO) is the Matix soundtrack, there are many different elements as well as styles and alot of contrast from track to track. When you can make it through the entire CD with great sound throughout the entire thing you have one Hell of a system. One thing I should add though is that I have never tried any IASCA or USAC test CDs so maybe those would be a little better. You could also try Portishead's self titled album, it is just beautiful music and is an amazing experience on a good system.
