Ok, I have cds that were burned on a computer....cds that were burned on an audio cd burner.....and cds that were mp3s converted to .cda and burned on a cd. now they all sound fine....Whats the actual difference in sound quality when you convert an mp3 to a .cda?? and how much, if anything...is lost from burning? It always seems that the original cds always sound better...but I think it's just psycological
thanks in advance!

usually the mastering of the CD at the studio more expenxive equipment than a sound card, I think that .cda is only 144, while mp3 is 128 and cd is 192

they shouldnt sound any different unless u have a kinda cheap cd burner...the reason it converts em into cdas is because thats the only way u would be able to play them in a cd player...a cd player wont play mp3s

In my experience, MP3's lower than 160kbps converted back to wav format to be burnt to a cd never sound right, they lose dynamics, and usually have a "scratchy" sound to them. And it's not a product of the sound card in your system. We are talking digital to digital conversion, there is no dac involved. I've ripped many cd's to .wav format and then burnt from .wav format to the cd, and they seem to work fine, or at least I cannot tell the difference between the original and the burnt, with the exception of the burnt cd's scratch much easier. The trick is to use a really fast machine, with lots of ram, a SCSI hard drive and burner, and the right burner software. I use Gear, and it works great, kinda hard to work, but works very good. To rip my cd's, I use Music Match jukebox, it can rip cd's at up to 8x normal speed, which is pretty cool, and again, considering it's only reading digital information and doesn't have to process it, works just fine.
