Ill need a burner when I buy my DVD player. It's cool feature is it'll play mp3's and wavs recorded onto a CD! Do you need a good burner for quality? Or do the expensive ones just burn faster?

Quality comes from burning at a slower speed, not the burner. If you burn at a four the quality is not as good as at a two. Differant burners have differant features, like some can copy playstion(HP) and some cannot (Phillips) but audio quality is all about speed and the quality of the blank cds you are using. Also if you have a scratched up cds (i'm not talking craters) but if you have a cd that skips, burn it at 1x and it'll be like new! It works, really. If anyone would like to trade let me know i've got a bunch of stuff. Also if anyone wants they're own cd's copied send it to me i'll charge you a buck for the blank cd thats it. Usmcsnyper77@cs.com

Philips burners can burn PLaystation games, my mate has one and does it all the time. I'd have to agree and the burning speed though, some of my mates have had trouble playing cd's burnt at 4x and it crackles and skips on his car stereo. But its fine in home stereos, or my pioneer head. Pioneer has got good headunits!

Just from my experiance, I had to go and buy another burner because the Phillips burner I have now wont copy the PSX games. So now I use the Phillips to read and the HP to burn. That also saves my lens. Do you know what model your friend has, because I've never heard of a Phillips burning PSX. Im not doubting you Im just curious.

Super Dave - are these mp3's that you've grabbed off the 'net or one's you've made from you own collection. I've found the one's on the net vary widely in quality. You can specify in the settings what quality you want to have when you convert files to .mp3 format... check the properties menu of your software. The better the quality the more space it takes up.
For all you guys running burners on pc's [or macs] the most important thing is to keep the resources as free as possible. Don't run anything else while you're burning tracks . The burner uses a memory buffer and if it runs too low you get lousy burns which causes skips, bad tracks or just plain screws up your cd.

cd ripping speed is not nearly as important as the program you're using. music match is a VERY nice cd ripper, and TDK makes a cd burner that rips cd's at 16x. (8x write, 4x rewrite, 32x read, 16 audio rip) anyway, about getting sq and audio levels right, i use Sonic Foundry Sound Forge 4.0. It has tons of mixing and editing features, and is a VERY nice cd writer companion. Try to get the mp3's at 160kbps for the best sound quality, but 128k is good too (anything over 160kbps can clip very badly)In Winamp, turn on the disk writer plugin, then run the wav files through sound forge and normalize them all to get a consistent level (i use -6 db, it gives really good bass and crystal clear sound) then use a ripping program to put them on cd. (make sure you close the disk or most car head units won't read it).
about psx cd's, the mod chips may need to be upgraded once in a while to ensure you can play the latest games on it.
I have over 200 mp3's if anyone wants to swap, or you want more info, email me @ duraiden@yahoo.com

>Quality comes from burning at a slower >speed, not the burner.
Not true. It's related to quality of setup, (i.e. get SCSI for best performance) I burn at 8X audio with no sound degradation.
>Differant burners have differant features, >like some can copy playstion(HP) and some >cannot (Phillips)
Not true. Philips and HP are the same burner with different labels slapped on.
>Also if you have a scratched up cds (i'm >not talking craters) but if you have a cd >that skips, burn it at 1x and it'll be like >new!
Somewhat true. Disc to disc copying with 2 drives this will rarely work at any speed. I'd suggest reading it to you hard disk first. http://63.248.18.168/cdexch/index.html <--My cd exchange page. A list of MOST of what I have.
