For those into the heavier side of metal...if you weren't aware Bathory is no more. Quorthon was found dead on June 7th (iirc), possibly due to heart problems. This was not verified until today (thursday) on his website, many thought it was another hoax but it is not.
While not a big fan of his music, never had a chance to check it out...hopefully change that soon. I have heard good reviews of his stuff, the album Requiem is prob at the top of my list to check out first.
I know he was a major influence on many black metal bands among others and many bands covered his songs.

One of my housemates in college (nickname: Death Metal Dave; eventually just Death Metal) introduced me to Bathory, Obituary, Cannibal Corpse, etc. Need to go back and revisit them thar CDs and tapes.
