I attended my first sound off competion this past Saturday at Pacific Stereo in Fullerton, California and I
have a few interesting tidbits I want to share. Well I hit a 144.1 and placed seventh in my class (which I thought was
pretty good for my first showing). A week before this event I became an official member of db drag racing and I read
the rule book carefully to find out exactly what category I will be competing in which is Street 3-4 and at the day of
the event I come to find the classes were based on wattage. It kinda went like this 0-500 Ama; 0-500 Pro; 500+ Ama;
and 500+ Pro, well I have a 1993 Toyota Corolla with (4) JL’s with a wattage of 1200 watts and obviously I was
placed in the 500+ Ama but what was interesting was that I was placed into the same category as guys who had more
speakers and certainly way more wattage. I was there to have fun being my first sound off and all, so I didn’t
complain too much. Well, I got taken out the first round but a guy who had (6) 15’s in a speaker wall in the back of a
chevy suburban who hit low to mid 150’s. I’m not discredting this competitor at all, I give him all the credit in the world
for building a kick ass system and it wasn’t his fault we were in the same category but speaking for myself I felt I was
in an unfair disadvantage. I’m not one to complain about things, so that’s the end of my gripe but leaving the event I
had a few questions; no one at the event knew how points will be awarded and at what classes. I placed seventh and
after reading the rule book it says I should be awarded 2 points but in what class? 500+ Ama or Street 3-4? Even
though I was up against a competitor in a different class? What class will his points be awarded to? Also, let me know if anyone else at the event feel the same
way I do. Okay... now I feel better.

We award points based on participation. Points are not attached to one class or another as there are no standards for classes at the local level. Since you placed 7th, you will receive 2 points. If, at a later date you decide to changes classes, you will still have the 2 points you received from the contest.
