"For those areas located behind the B-Pillars, an unlimited amount of sound damping material(s) may be used."
It doesn't mention window line in the deadener rules - just b-pillar.
Some people tell me that I can only use two layers above the window line behind the b-pillar but that rule ONLY mentions to b-pillar and not above the window line.
So what is the rule before I add any more dampener to my roof ?

That is what some people are telling me but can you show me where it says that in the rule book ? I cannot find it anywhere. I can only find the restriction in reference to the b-pillar.
Thanks for your help!

All loudspeaker enclosures, and / or baffle boards, with the exception of those mounted in the kick-panels or doors, shall be located behind an imaginary plane that stretches from the trailing edge of the driver's door to the trailing edge of the passenger door. In this rulebook, the terms "B-Pillar" and "Doorjamb" are sometimes used when referring to this imaginary plane.

But I cannot find any reference to dampening differences above and below the window line when it is behind the b-pillar in SS NW class.
What I want to know is if I am behind the b-pillar can I have more than two layers on my roof ? The only reference I can find seems to indicate that I am allowed to use as much as I want as long as I am behind the b-pillar.
But several experienced competitors tell me that I cannot do so on the roof since it is above the window line -- but I cannot find that in the rules.

No wall refers to the 'super street' parts of yer car - the other parts of yer car have to be 'street' legal. Same reason the original panels, etc, cannot be modified.
So - behind the pillars and above the window line is 'street' - 2 layers and oem panels. It's what adds the challenge to the class.
I really must admit, I couldn't tell ya the last time someone checked to see if I was in violation of this rule- then again - I never broke a world record where they would comb thru my system. Ask Jeffrey of Team XS SPL about vehicle audits!!!

Sure, the rule book may not SAY it, but you're looking for trouble if you actually do it
The rule book doesn't mean nothing at finals anyway

Put a million layers between the roof and the box and you effectively wall off the car. Then slide the box back and try a bandpass with the centerconsole made of dbblue built up on the roof LOL

Okay - so dampening is considered a modification to the vehicle ? If we take that line item literally that would mean that NO dampener would be allowed above the window line...
I think Wayne may want to put a note like "(this includes sound dampening beyond 2-layers)" as the section specifically pertaining to sound dampening doesn't mention the window line and the cited line is a bit unclear.
Thanks for the help all. I'll just leave the roof at 2-layers maximum.

Jake, these are the allowed modifications. All rule 6-10i is saying is that these rules apply above the window line.
Modifications to the passenger compartment from the B-Pillar forward are prohibited.
Additional Guidelines:
* The OEM headliner (or an equivalent replacement) must remain in place for those areas in front of the B-Pillar. * The OEM door panels (or an equivalent replacement) must remain in place for those areas in front of the B-Pillar. * The OEM carpeting (or an equivalent replacement) must remain in place for those areas in front of the B-Pillar. * Sound damping materials may be used to reduce vibration when installed in accordance with the manufacturer's recommended installation instructions. For those areas located in front of the B-Pillars, the maximum total thickness of sound damping material applied at any given location may not exceed 5/32 inch (4mm). The sound damping application may consist of mat-type material, spray-on material, or a combination of the two. A maximum of 2 layers of mat-type material may be used at any given location, even if the total thickness of the sound damping material(s) is less than 5/32 inch (4mm). For those areas located behind the B-Pillars, an unlimited amount of sound damping material(s) may be used. * Expanding foam may be used sparingly in front of the B-Pillars to seal small openings or reduce vibration, but may not be used to fill voids or other large cavities (such as the dashboard or doors). An unlimited amount of expanding foam may be used behind the B-Pillars.
