Ok, I have a question about somthing concerning safty. this is a ss1+2nw class. this van is being street driven and want it to be Street legal.....the seat belt bracket is going to be moved to the doorjamb. (the side of the stepup on a astrovan) so the belts will be functinal.. agian this is a street driven van and it has to be DOT compliant. IS THIS LEGAL???? thank you, Jim Niemi TJs Audio

I have an astro asnd I relocated mine by going with a 3 point racing harness that worked with and was mounted to the existing points where the seats are mounted to the floor.

He is driving it to the show so its generally a law to have to have them installed in some manner at least, You can buy aftermarket racing style harnesses that bolt up in the stock seatmount locations.

Fit the brackets, drive to the show, unbolt belt.
Dont want the belts flapping around infront of the subs/port

Most racing belts are quick release as well as quick tightening. They can be fastened and snugged up so that they aren't loose and "flapping around". Just my .02 from actual experience with this situation.

for someting like that if you demonstrated the reasonig behind it I would let it go.. at worst case senerio you will have to unbolt it after you got to the show later Doug

but if factory caravans come with shoulder belts...then should you be allowed to modify it since you are in effect modifying above the b pillar?

Thank you for a reply Doug. I was starting to wonder if this wouldn't fall into the "easyly removable in 5 mins or less" rule.
To SubGoPoof I am wanting to retain the factory seat belts for safty and street legal. I am not doing ANY thing above the window line, and my reloaction of seat belts is not to cercumvent the rules and incress SPL or to atempent to get around the rules. My seat belts were loacted behind the B-pillar from the factory and will NOT function proprely around the sub woofer encloser.
My goal is SAFTY and nothing more. If I was trtying to get around the rules wouldn't I just leave the seat belts out ? How many NW vans are still street legal...lead alone daily drives. If the seats can be removed(there infront of the B-pillar) I don't see why adding seat belts in front of the B-pillar would be any diffrent....if any thing removeing the seats would cause a SPL gain.....not adding seat belts.

Thankyou Doug for the reply...We hope that all the judges would think the same way as you. And again this is not to increase the SPL in the van it is so If we get pulled over we will not get a fine for not being LEGAL for not having seat belts. Again this IS A DAILY DRIVE (that means pete drives this EVERY day mon-sun) seat belts are a SAFTY concern of ours and it should be under stood. Again thanks Doug
