Yes or no is fine.

1. Can a competitor place the mic on his/her windshield instead of the judge at an event?

2. Is it possible for a competitor to have a mic that reads about 1dB higher then the official judges mic?

3. Can a competitor alter a mic to read higher?

.

in regards to part 2..my sensor is 0.6-0.7 away from of the other judges sensors here in bc

thats the most spread ive heard of. I think 1 db would be stretching it

1. No. (I think at a multi point event the judge should do this. The comp. can look at how the judge place the mic and should say if he/she thinks the mic is not 100% in the right point.

2. ? (not sure if some one can make a mic louder?)

3. ? (I know that some have a few tents off another mic, but 1db.... OMG)

1) NO
2) Yes
3) Anything is possible, I have never opened one up, but I'm sure you could alter resistor values or something to change it.

Like our testing last year before Finals we had like 4 different meters in the same car and I believe they were all different. [Smile]

1. NO

2. Yes

3. Yes, all you need to do is change the K-Factor in the settings of the Termlab. Doesn't alter the sensor itself, but the software.

you can modify a mic to read high. but not the judges mic at a show, would take to long, you would have to plug your own modified mic into the ethernet cable and put it in your car.

the mic is hard to mod though because the board inside is covered in some sort of epoxy

Bingo, that's the answer I was looking for.
so number 1 & 3 go hand in hand.

Thank you!

The answers to me were obvious also but now there is a record and next time someone places the mic in there own car will think about not doing it again.

At a single point event it doesn't matter who places the mic.

At multipoint certified events, the judge needs to oversee the placement of the sensor or have a qualified sensor placer do it for them.
