Due to my own stupidity I know have a fairly large (football) shaped dent in my roof. Ive been told by several people that at finals it could probably be DQ'd due to it modifying the interior volume.

heres the rule in the rulebook:

"The size (air volume) of the passenger compartment may not change during competition. (For example: The subwoofer enclosure cannot move forward, airbags may not be deployed, etc.)"

But by the rule it says the passenger compartment volume cannot change during a competition...which it wouldnt. The dent would be there before and after I burp.

Ive tried to pop it out from the outside several times and unfortunately on the inside it falls directly over a roof brace. So to get it fixed professionally will cost a couple hundred dollars total. Just seeing if I can save myself a little money.

thanks

4X4 post and a bottle jack will fix it just fine. Doesn't have to be smooth, just relatively flush.

Car yards use dent removal people who have suction cups that pull out these dents quite easliy, you could try your local yellow pages.

I think it is fine. Who says once you pop it out it wont suck back in once you burp it. Who's fault is that? I think the crushing of the roof rule is lame, no need for it to be there.

thats what i was thinking. Once theres a dent, there will always be prone to re-denting after its popped out.

by definition of the rule it says you cant change the cabin volume during the run. So i could understand a DQ ruling if the dent did suck in. But if it was dented before and remained dented after than the cabin volume doesnt change.

It is still a "modified interior volume of the vehicle"

I remember at finals last year, team livewire had to pop the dents out of their SM1-2 Vans roof to be allowed to compete.

Yep. And they came back after every burp. Had to be fixed after each burp also.

If we let one competitor run with big dent on the roof then really soon we will see really big dents on the cars.

If a suction cup doesnt work, use a screw. Then fill the hole the screw made.

If you want it fixed, it can be fixed.
