In Street and StreetMax you can do whatever you want regarding alts as long as it it under the hood, this since engine has to be off in the lanes.

Aftermarket alts are perfectly legal in Max.
Only one though, and engine off.
Where in the rules does it say that there is a limited number of alts for Street Max? To my knowledge the only class that has a limit for alts is Super Street in which the maximum is 2 alternators.

there is no limit to the best of my knowledge either, because vehicle is off.

If theres a 2 alt limit for SS, then surely being a lower class you will be limited to 1 alt in Max.
But then when has common sense ever prevailed in dB Drag rules.

Common sense is that because the engine has to be off in the lanes the number of alternators is completely irrelevant in Street and Street Max.
There are daily driven Street and Street Max competitors that have more than one alternator you know, if the rule were one alternator in those classes when the car needs to be off dB Drag Racing would lose even more competitors.

SS has the limit because the car is on. your system benefits from the alternator WHILE you are competing.
look at the rules ben, or even the matrix. all street classes have a dashed line for the number of alternators, because it doesnt matter, since the vehicle is off.
our systems do NOT benefit from the alt while competing. however, we do benefit in the event of a tie

Sbn last year i wouldnt consider the class competitive at all atleast in the south. one guy walks away with it if he comes on the national level and in the south area you are more than likely competing against one person, every show i went to except finals and sbn was like that.
from world finals this year: 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th are all from ohio/indiana.
not to mention kent hill, (who had issues), as well as mike makus over in wisconsin (8th), and team chrismel (7th) and now stacey adams is jumping back into sm this year
sm is a very tough class up here.
down south you have big dave to worry about though (it'll take a 161 to take dave out this year, from what i'm hearing )
