Car is a Pontiac GP (1997) with the stock
alternator (105 amps). I'm running a PG
ZX475ti and ZX400ti for amplification.
the ZX400ti is running 2Ohm stereo to 4 subs.

I noticed the stock alternator wire takes a
rather long route to get to the battery and
the wire is around 10g until it reaches
what I think is the starter. There is 2g
wire from the starter to the battery.

Can I just run a 2g cable directly from the
alternator 2 the battery and not use the
10g cable?

Thanks for your input.

from what i was told.. from your alt to the battery, do not run larger than a 4 ga. This is what Matt (IDtech) told me, unless this was for my specific application.(60 amp alt)

Okay, I wanted to run a 4ga directly to the
battery.

The 2ga (stock) cable will still be run to the starter from the battery.

The difference is now the alt cable would not
be run via 10ga cable all over the engine compartment.

Does anyone know if this is okay?

Thanks.

it is not a really long route so u do not need huge wire 10guage to 4 guage is fine for it because its gonna no more than 7 feet. just ground the alt with the same guage wire that all.
