I have a 91 ranger, and when i hit my high beams my voltage drops to like 8 in a week i am getting a us 400 so i need to know what i nned to do, could it just be a bad batt, or do you think i need an alt too? would an alt. be a good idea anyways, for when i get my amp?

the US will have some serious current draw, so an alt is a real good idea. but you're saying it drops to 8 with just high beams? then either the alt or battery is bad. i had a battery go bad once, whenever there was any kind of real draw it would drop the volts to like 10.

Id say replace tha alt 4 sure cuz tha new amp will have a high current draw (certinally more than your high beams!) and also put in a new battery to insure a longer life of your new alternater.

u could just have your gains set wrong on your amp...that can cause your lights to flicker a bit
