Aight i was wondering how the best way to wire up 2v or 4v cells up to a bank of 12v to make a 14v or 16v bank would be. ive been thinking since i had some voltage issues from bad batteries id replace ones that are bad with 2 or 4 volt cells and run my alternator externaly regulated to charge them.
and this question is for scotty j. will your charger charge a bank of batteries that are 14v since ur charger is a 12v/16v charger? would hate to do a 14v system and then my charger be useless.

The charger will undercharge at 12 and overcharge at 16 so it will be useless. The only way to wire it is series with eachother (6 in series for 12v) and then parrallel all the 12v banks. In general if this is a daily driver this will cost you a ton and you would be further ahead with multiple AGM 12v batts

ok so i wire 2 of the hawker 2v cells up to 4v then series the 4 volt to the 12v bank to make 16v. either way will work for me because i have enough capacity. im not going for huge numbers here im just going for making my voltage a bit higher. id be running the 2v 25ah hawker cells.
and the point of this thread is so i dont have to get rid of all my big 12v batteries that i already own and just add some different cells to increase my voltage. i already have access to D1000's if i wanted to use them.
plus i found the hawker 2v cells pretty cheap thats why this idea has came about. maybe mick can chime in. i believe thats what hes doin with his bank of 12v batteries.

its been done personaly Id rather see you try and give those batteries a good charge and see if you cant bring them back then figure out a better way to wire them in the van so that the charge and draw is spread out more

i brought one of the batteries back to life. im gonna work on the other 3 that were borderline bad. id still like to up my voltage without having to lose my capacity i have now since it does fine on 12v as long as everything is charged and not have a dead battery in the mix.

I'm not sure how much this will help, but this is the way I used to do it back in the day (2003)before I could get ahold of some good quality 16V batteries like the XS Power D1000.
I would use 3 buss bars... one amplifier positive buss bar, one amplifier negative buss bar, and one "common" buss bar. I dont know if it will show clearly enough in the pics, but the bottom buss bar has all the 12V positive leads and the 4V negative leads connected together. The middle buss bar has all the 12V negative leads (evenly distributed to the amp negative inputs) and the top buss bar has all the 4V postive leads (evenly distributed to all the amp positive inputs)
You will want to make sure to match the capacity of the two banks as closely as possible to prevent all your voltage drop from being on one of the banks.
Hope this helps!

oh... also, the 1005 will not charge a 14V bank, but you could always use a 993 step down module in line to step down the charge voltage 2.4V in the 16V mode (you will need to charge a 14V bank of sealed batteries at around 17V)

They are 1.33V Ni-Cad batteries made in England by a company called Al-Cad. I tried to give them away for the longest time... eventually just sat them out back of the shop for someone to come get for free... they're probably still sitting there for all I know.

We used the setup below to add 2 volts to our car. The 2 volt cells are Cyclon BC's. I can't help you with charging though, since we used them to take our 14v system to 16v and used a 16v charger.
Make sure your 2v cells match the output of your other batteries...in our case we used 24 BC's for 32,000 amps of short circuit capability which matched the other 'batteries' perfectly.
